Timerun
When people say "the middle of nowhere" or "the frontier" what settlement name do they use?
Timerun is a 3 HUB trading post 150 miles from the fertile farm lands of Jubilee, across the unrelenting desert of Alash. Timerun is a unique trade post, thriving because of the HUB, one of the greatest achievements of the Artificers, a worldwide teleportation and information network.
The busy trade post of Timerun is mostly made up of thick walled, single story, natural colored adobe buildings. When the wind blows, the dust in the air seems to make the town disappear. There is little activity in the heat of midday. With sunset comes a coolness as the sky fills with pinks, oranges, and purples that are breathtaking. The town blooms to life as the people come out to trade and socialize in the cool evening air. The central market fills with life, voices, merriment, and the smells of exotic spices and food.
The fish markets here sell wonderful saltwater prawns, that are larger than a human foot. Restaurants serve them roasted in lemon butter and carved like a chicken of old. Travelers often note that the day only begins when the sun sets in Timerun. The strong spiced rum of the region is delicious but not to be taken lightly. The over indulgent traveler often wake from their drunken slumber in the gladiatorial arena. They may be working off debts, promises, or forced to live up to the boasts of the night before. The fights in the arena mark the end of the day and settling up of debits. The Pit fights bring some fame and fortune and to the unlucky, it brings poverty and wounded pride, but all fighters survive. The Pit fights symbolize an ancient law of the desert, "any promises made in evening shade must be paid by the heat of the day."
Timerun acts as the trade center for the Salted Lake region. The communities of Pontarde, Moonwall, Lastown, and other surrounding villages are known to grow exotic spices and citrus fruit. The summer temps average 35c in the day and dropping to a cool 15c at night. The center piece, and jewel of the area is the Salted Lake. The lake is a land locked saltwater caldera that has a constant temperature of 22c. Life in the lake is abundant with fish, clams and prawns. The fisherman constantly harvest the lake to prevent over population and huge fish kills.

What an interesting place! It left me wondering what the origin of the name is...
I really liked the old concept of "any promises made in evening shade must be paid by the heat of the day."
Thanks MGatta, The Place is in the middle of no where even though it has teleportation Gates. The concept of the HUB is they teleport to fixed locations but are one way. If you were to enter a Gate lets say in Paris France that teleports you to London once you arrive in London there is not a gate back to Paris from there. You must go to a gate leading to lets say " Rome". Once in Rome you would have a gate that would retune to Paris. This establishes teleportation as a long distance travel. But local travel still has to be done the old fashioned way on hover wagons drawn by horses, or by ship. The cost magically speaking to traverse these gates is expensive 1/2 the available magic the user has that day. So more than 2 gate jumps in a day can make a magic user weak to the point of fatigue.
