Akka-latois

History

Akka-Latois is a relatively calm nation. Most threats to the kingdom come from above or from rogue, individual creatures, as the shelter of the Sea of Souls is difficult for the dangers of the open ocean to penetrate.

It is unclear what disaster millennia ago sank the city now called Akka-Latois. There are no records of such a city in the histories of the dwarven realm of Underholme. The tritons believe that it was struck by the renegade gods at some point during the Godstorm, and that their ancestors were saved by prayers to Eadro and Morania. They were given the city as a reward for their devotions.

Despite their peaceful existence, the tritons are fierce warriors and guardians, capable of dealing with nearly any threat. Pella-Bulla, their only military outpost, lies near the mouth of the Bay of Souls and they have become adept at stopping threats from entering the kingdom from outside. However, when the need arises, even the royal family is not above protecting the realm. As youths, King Daemetrius and Lady Arisa defeated a powerful shark that had been threatening farmers.

For the most part, the common folk are farmers or artisans, and heavy industry is relatively unknown. Merfolk are generally farmers, with tritons acting as overseers or members of the gentry.

Currency
Akka-Latois uses a barter economy, with commoners giving a portion of their crop or findings to their lord, who in turn gives some to their troops and the king. Any coins found are usually only kept for their artistic appeal but gemstones are highly valued.
