12 Rivers of the lost Souls
Geography
12 rivers stem off of a large acidic lake that no boats can stay afloat longer then a few minutes. these rivers cross all 12 regions as if it were sections of time on a clock. they go all the way from the center of the flat earth to the edge where they cascade into space.
Ecosystem
it is vastly unknown to the general public but if they had the means to look into these rivers with out being lured into them they would see several types of Phylum Chordata (scientific word for fish). river shores would give off fumes of gas that the local plants, ferns and moss use to grow as if it were rain and fertilized soil. going through the clean and clear river water people would see the natural eco system of any fresh water rivers from a topical paradise. with colorful fishes, carnivorous plants and crabs that seem to not reproduce but 'split' into another self as it has no sex.
Ecosystem Cycles
year around the rivers inhabitants and its localized plants to not alter. if one person took a study of such species they would notice that nothing in the water ages. plants do not over grow but will replace dead leaves or missing leaves. fishes seem to just split instead of mating. they tend to eat the 'older self's'.
Localized Phenomena
Known as the Hayan gas effect. This is cased by the acidic that eats away at the hayan minerals that self replicate at a slow pace at the island center. this poison is what gives off the gas form. this is a inhibitor, that makes a person feel like having deja vu. Recalling an old friend that would swim in the river while another person would see a lover on the other side of the river waving at them. Each person would see something they most care for. either its a lover, a friend or a child that they know for all facts are at home with their mother but there they are on the rivers edge playing and splashing in the water. These are impairing the person, the gas "wants" the person to walk into the water.
Another effect is the Hayan gas relocation effect. this is casasued by the gas. it functions like a mirror or magnified glass. it makes everything on the other side look significantly closer. when the first person learn of the hayan mask and was able to avoid the poisonous effects that person would notice the 8 foot wide river was not 8 feet but 800 feet. any wooden bridges would melt and fall with in minutes of being over it. later they will learn that only living plants can survive as they are resistant to the poison but any flesh or fur of land animals can not withstand the effects of the river of lost souls.
Fauna & Flora
Regular fresh water tropical Flora and Fauna as the main lands. though they will differ in sizes as they will be smaller and fragile thoug those that dwell under water seem to be in it's 'prime'
Natural Resources
clay can be found though no local people are willing to get close enough to use or willing to die to get some, even with a proper hayan mask. touching the wet clay in the shoreline is asking to loose their hands with in the day even once out of the water. the rule is every second is an inch lost. in the center of the river and at the farthest edges of the planet where the 'fall of souls' (waterfall to space). Their are spcial gems called "ice gems" that can be used in potions to cure hayan effects as well take away its 'poison' for those who use it for longevity. as one known effect is paranoia and delusional outburst.
History
The Rivers of the lost souls is known as folk lore as well as practical borders of each region on the planet (Flat earth). No one knows why living plants can withstand its highly acidic components. many schollars tried to figure it out but once the plant is removed from the soil that it will just disolve as if it were flesh. wooden boats only last for a few minutes while one made with hayan lined steel will last only a little bit longer but its is known that the deeper the boat pass the stronger the acid works and it never pass the "middle" of the river.
The lake is used for letting the dead soldiers who fight every week to rest, locals say that its these souls that guide the living to the river to drown. No one can confirm this lore as truth or not as everyone hallucinate and the images they see are all different though similar on one thing. "they want to go in the river or pass over it"
Tourism
No locals will willingly pass over or swim. only time someone will willing waste a large sum of resources to travel is done by convoys that are trading with a bordering ally (Ally relations ships tend not to last long. one effect of hayan being consumed is a 'warp' sense of paranoia. This endevor to make a bridge out of hayan covered metal, is so costly that they rather travel several miles to the center where all the regions connect to cross into another's border.

I like how 'Tourism' just talks about how no one wants to go near these rivers. For a prompt that asks "What draws people here?" it's fun seeing it taken in the complete opposite way. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Feel free to check out my Rivers/Waterways entry: Loch Mesner
