The Siege of Denarra

The Bezjan Empire besieges the ancient fortress of Denarra, with the largest army yet seen of at least 80000 soldiers to finally bring an end the last of the Karillian legacy. The Rasini, in a state of weakness cant send more than a few regiments of Stratos, but the Volitari of this ancient city aren't slouches, There's a reason that the fortress has never fallen before.

The Conflict

Deployment

The Bezjans deployed their siege works to bombard the walls with a storm of Rocks, while the Defenders readied themselves on the walls and the streets. In the meantime the Rasini fleet engaged the Bezjan ships to prevent them from blockading the city.

Battlefield

The City of Denarra is spoken of widely as the Greatest Fortress in the world and not without reason, its walls have held against any foe the world could conjure against it. The Walls have two layers, the inner wall and the outer wall, the outer wall has a bridge to the inner wall that could be lowered when the outer wall fell. The Towers held mounted crossbows that could fire large bolts down which could do both piercing but also blunt damage. The port also had ballistae to shot at incoming naval vessels.

Conditions

A dry evening on green grass soon to be painted the color of war.

The Engagement

The Catapults breach the walls as thousands of Bezjans flood in like water, and the battering ram breaches the gates of the city even as boiling water burns half of the men and women. Siege Towers lower their bridges and Bezjan soldiers clad in Gambeson and mail engage the Defenders of the walls. Arrows fly down from the inner wall down into the Attacking Force, the fighting is vicious and brutal with men and women falling of the walls into their deaths. The outer wall had mostly fallen to the Bezjans so the Bridge was lowered and the soldiers of the outer wall were lost. The Bezjans then assaulted the second gate, being hit with arrows, bolts, rocks, spears, javelins, and boiling water. Meanwhile the Attackers on the walls prepared Planks and ladders to be used as bridges to cross with. At sea the Rasini had won the Naval battle, and the food imports would keep flowing in. These good news however lasted only minutes as the general was shot by a lucky Bezjan, The defenders were deeply Demoralized. However The Generals daughter Aretai Ghalas Took her fathers Helmet and said to the soldiers
Remember That it is not only your lives at risk here but your loved ones too, if you give up now everything you love and cherish will be burned and destroyed. You cannot let that happen, after all has this city not survived thousands of battles like this one before, have your mothers and fathers not also held against waves like these! Do you really wanna be known as the men and women who let our people be slaughtered by our foe! Because if not raise your shield and ready your axe, and make sure to leave your mark in their skulls.
The men and women both shamed and fearful, braced themselves for the hardest fight of their lives, and as the Bezjans came pouring in, The Defenders fought tooth and nail to stop the wall from falling to them. The fighting was nothing less than a brutal struggle to the last, with both sides dying left and right. Until at Dawn The Thyrimians Arrived.   The Thyrimians had initially wanted to stay out of the fighting as their king detested the Rasini, but it became clear that if Bejakoz won his kingdom would be next. So he sent a large army out to face the Bezjans on that fateful dawn. The Thyrimians charged the bezjans with vigor, and the their forces panicked as their King died in combat with the Thyrimian cavalry. The Bezjans on the walls had no idea however and continued the fight, as blade and arrow pierced skin. However when they noticed their army had fallen they realized all was lost and fought to the last as the Defenders surely wouldn't let them live if they surrendered. And so the bloody struggle came to an end.

Outcome

The City survived and the Volitari people breathed a sigh of relief.

Aftermath

The Bezjan casualties were disastrous and their Empire suffered many raids but ultimately survived. The city of Denarra would not be attacked again for centuries and as order collapsed in Rasina, they held on and later assisted Irene in unifying the empire.
