Who else but Alani? No doubt one of the most used sentences throughout Artesja, no one other than maybe Artemis has gathered as much renown as Kommandante Alani, leading the 1st guards' army to victory forevermore.
Alani's early life was no different than most other kids his age, he was born to a working-class family in the Gitalgar harbor, so he wasn't unfamiliar with hard labor. Though despite his persistent high grades and good behavior, he was expelled from GFG (Gitalgar's first gymnasium) for beating the ever-loving-shit out of someone threatening to do the same to him, Alani has never been the diplomatic type, and, those kinds of people are exactly who the Vehr look for.
As Alani was too young to join the Vehr proper, he started off in the Kadets, a scouting organization that is available for a broader range of ages. Which he stayed in for five years, it, in turn, aided his training when he inevitably joined the Vehr, and he graduated, top of his regiment, from the Gitalgar conditioning camp. He was recommended to the 18th ranger battalion, at the time one of Artesja's most respected units, who accepted him, and he quickly found a place there among his new comrades.

The 18th rangers were stationed along the Artesjan-Fedrian border, so it wasn't uncommon for the rangers to clash with their neighbors, they rarely lost, though. And Alani would time and time again be commended by his comrades for his bravery and tactical thinking, things that, sooner rather than later, landed him a promotion, to Corporal.
After a few years had come and gone by, and the 18th ranger battalion had been restationed to Karelja, at the height of the political tensions. He and his man were notified of a gathering scuffle on the steps of the Synagaugas, a whole crowd of silver legionnaires was attempting to break up a speech some guy named Artemis was making.
Alani and the 18th pushed their way through the fascists just as the fraternal militia was about to be overwhelmed, though unknowingly, Alani had just saved the second saint.

Rangers led the way

Unfortunately for Alani, the 18th rangers would meet their end during the war of the tyrant, in the horribly botched landing at Litautha, Alani and the men he commanded were part of the first wave, and it was them that cleared the path for those to come after, and them that bore the brunt of the Rasinae fury. And in the end, they had to surrender due to a lack of supplies.
Alani's time as a P.O.W. was neither long nor harsh, nearly all of the Rasini guards had been relocated to the front, so it was easy for him to escape, and he joined up with Artemis II's forces at Salrithik. This was also his first time meeting the newly promoted Colonel Nonna, whom he tried to swing his way, but failed miserably at, maybe because he was drunk out of his mind, or because he did so by spitting at her.
When the Marshall received the news about Alani's battalion, he sent his condolences and gave him a month's leave. Alani decided to spend his brief vacation in Hannanstadt, unfortunately for him, however, as he spent his time wandering the streets of the trade city, he heard gunshots.
Colonel Matyas had launched a rebellion in Hannanstadt, and the city was now under the control of his militia. And Alani gathered with the surviving army units and made a plan to retake the area.
Their operation went better than expected, the makeshift fascist militia present very little real threat, and relied heavily on the element of surprise. The rebels weren't a match for the superior training of the Vehr, however, their fighting seized the moment they were notified that Artemis had entered the city. And the rest was history.
Alani and his new squad were all awarded the highest Artesjan honors for their part in stopping Colonel Matyas' coup.

Naught but blood and courage

The war or the tyrant was over, and Alani, who was now a general, was stationed in Karelja once again. This time, with the 1st guards' army, mostly made up of his comrades from Hannanstadt, and along with a couple of tank battalions, they form the new 1st Guards' army.
Artesja at the time was still reeling from the discovery of the Cantrargian archipelago, along with the people living there, and there were rumors about the High command planning a military expedition. Alani's rank was not high enough to corroborate this, though. Besides, he and his men were busy preparing for the opening day of the geminist railway, they were to provide backup to the Intellegentzia agents in case someone suspicious was spotted, however, Alani, who at this point was a trusted confidant of Artemis, handed control over to his subordinate. And went to join Artemis for the opening.
That day was one Alani would never forget, he stood there as the second saint, the greatest leader of Artesja, was shot, point-blank, as he stood there, splattered in blood. As the Hierophant's guard locked the area down, Alani took control of the panicked crowds around the train, and luckily, he managed to prevent further loss of life.

The Council convenes

As the saint lay dead and Artesja stand leaderless, contingency measure 12 was activated. Requiring the Artesjan emergency government the assemble and elect a new leader, among the five head candidates was Alani, heavily favored by the Vehr and surrounding organizations for his neutral political views, he was also responsible for all matters of the military during this interim period, effectively making him minister of defense.
This position was not one which Alani sought, however, it was too large of a task for him to handle, so he was hesitant to remain within the council, little did he know, there were... Others within the council who did not desire the leadership of Artesja.
Alani met in secret with Head-scribe Tahomas and Brigadier Colonel Nonna, and they discussed leaving the council prematurely. And in the end, they came to an agreement, they would exit the A.E.C. and abstain from any future votes regarding leadership. 
After the three left, the council collapsed, submersed in endless bickering and rhetoric. And Artesja nearly fell into civil war, only being saved by the arrival of an unexpected person. Artemis II, son of the saint, and a recognized war hero throughout Artesja for his efforts at Salrithik. And he quickly gathered support from the old guard and conservative members of the Kadets.

Alani and Aelaria met sometime during his stay in Karelja, and, due to Aelaria's silver tongue, they started dating shortly after. This affair ended when Alani suggested making it public, which Aelaria vehemently disagreed with.
The pair broke up within three months, it was devastating for Alani.

Aelaria's reasoning was very superficial at first, but as she got to know Alani, she started to like him more for his sense of humor.
Alani was just excited that a girl was showing interest in him, and, he acted a little foolishly.
