The Frigid Spires of the False Suns

In the southern half of the Kingdom of Vojhanila, the Tarhamber Mountain Range cuts through much of the provinces of Duslyn, Yanen, and Bel'ruhn, all three of which fall within Vojhanila's colder taiga region. With the colder climate and rather mountainous landscape, these three provinces are mostly void of settlements, with only a few dozen cities south and southeast of the Tarhambers, along the Thyria Coast.   Somewhere in the middle of the Duslyn province sits one of the highest points of the Tarhamber Mountains, as well as one of the coldest. Though few traverse through this area, it is well known that a frozen caldera rests somewhere amongst these peaks.   A lake of pure ice lays within, frosted and opaque, anything below the surface completely obscured and, more than likely, forever lost. A thick, icy fog weaves through the caldera. Though all is still, there is a constant cacophony of loud creaks and quakes and rumbles shifting across the frozen lake, creating an eerie orchestra in the caldera that never sleeps.   Rising from the very center of the lake is tall, narrow castle, coated in silver material that nearly matches the surrounding snow and ice. It seems to emerge from the ice of the frozen lake itself, with no discernable entrances - only long, almost metallic, like obsidian mirrors, seemingly several stories high.   At the south, west, and east of this castle are three towering spires, each a slightly different height but all three at least twice as tall as the rest of the structure. Windowless and weary, the spires project a silence that pierces the cacophony of sound that permeates the rest of the caldera.   Stories say that no matter where one stands in the caldera, no matter the time of day, each spire points to what looks like a sun in the sky, though only one sun is known to this world, giving these towers their name, Spires of the False Suns.   This place is well known amongst those that live in the Kingdom of Vojhanila. With the dangerous terrain and difficulty in reaching its location, it is rarely visited. If anyone has ever attempted to enter the castle or it's spires, none seem to have returned to recount their experience.   No one seems to be aware of its origin or purpose, but none would disagree that it emanates nothing but a sense of depravedness and corruption, and is better off left alone.

Architecture

Architects that have studied the Spires and the castle they connect to have been unable to discern the exact materials used to construct the eerie structure, or what has been used to create the large, obsidian-like windows. It is generally agreed, however, that it's overall structure is very reminiscent of traditional Vojhanilan designs, often seen in some of the oldest districts of the capital of Nagroth and other First Cities. This suggests, at the very least, that it is both incredibly old as well as being truly Vojhanilan, and not a construct of a foreign empire.

History

Stories of the Spires have been recorded for centuries, all having very similar descriptions that seem to remain unchanged through every retelling. Based on it's architectural design, many historians theorizes that it was built by the earliest of peoples that would become the Kingdom of Vojhanila, though it's purpose and history since construction is highly debated.
