Mud Wastes

A tract of land previously dry, rocky, and barren, the Mud Wastes were created when the Sundering loosened the earth, allowing the subterranean water to seep to the surface. The Mud Wastes remain barren, but now the cold, black mud coats the land for hundreds of leagues.
It is believed that nothing lives in the Mud Wastes, and the scant few travelers who have braved them have reported no sign of life. In some locations a foul stench arises from the mud, and though there is no apparent cause for the stench, it is surely unrelated to the complete absence of life.
