Seth Harlan (a.k.a. Zed)

The story about Seth Harlan

Prologue.

It was already at an early age Seth started to think about the cosmos and the places to discover beyond his room inside the college. But before, the story how Seth came to be raised in a college by an acolyte of the five mages. The earliest memories Seth has is when his father, or maybe just a man, it is unclear. Seth's memories of his childhood before the college is somehow lost in his mind. When his father picked him up from the bedside in a tent, only to say “im sorry, son”. That is one of the few memories he has before the college. Seth have asked his mentor Konrad Harlan about his past, it's always the same answer how he was found abandoned in the forest and he knows nothing about him. Konrad thought very high of Seth because he was like a son to him. Konrad raised him, taught him values and virtues that should be followed. Seth Harlan is the name Konrad gave him, his real name is unknown.   One day looking at the stars after a long day helping his mentor archive his notes, the lust of adventure arose in him. The moment on a cold winter night Seth and Konrad sat in the courtyard looking up at the stars. Konrad had taught him where the northstar is and how to navigate using the stars, well Konrad was no expert in astrology but it was of his interest. The thought of how small we *humans* are compared to the bigger picture of cosmos was frightening but at the same time thrilling for Seth. The idea about travelling came to his mind, what if you could travel to the stars? Konrad had a bit of a chuckle when Seth asked him that. Konrad was not interested in leaving the citadel or even the college grounds. The burning passion he had for discovering new formulas, smarter ways to transform matter, or trying to create new elements was strong.   Seth was only an apprentice at the college, he did not socialize with the other students since they looked at him with a odd face. Konrad explained to Seth that the weird stares from the other acolytes was only because they were shy, the acolytes were younger and less experienced than Seth. Even if seth rarely tried to practise magic by himself he was more talented than the other acolytes in the college, mainly since he has been living by Konrads side since, well almost his whole life. The lack of interest in transmutation by Seth made Konrad sad, morely disappointed. Yet the feelings Konrad had about the lack of interest by Seth was never spoken of, he never told Seth that he wanted him to practice magic to help him, or to say that there was certainly potential in Seth.     The last two years Seth spent at the college was bleek. Konrad was getting older, becoming fragile. Konrad was an fairly old man when he took Seth in. The time Seth spent helping Konrad doing his everyday chores became more and more, while spending time in the study became more of a spontaneous activity rather than a everyday matter. Konrad finally died of old age in the couch of the study while taking a nap from scribbling on a new formula. This is when Seth became determined that there is nothing left to stay for in the college, leaving the college on a grand adventure was the goal.   After arrangements of Konrads belongings with one of the five mages at the college there was only the burial that was to take place, soon he could be at peace and leave. The ceremony was definitive, put in the catacombs of the citadel.   In the night before leaving Seth was walking around in Konrads study, looking for something to bring with him on his adventure, something that would be of good use, something to remember. Konrad gave everything he owned to Seth in his will, but Seth passed it on to one of the more promising acolytes in the college that knew Konrad very well. While walking around Konrads bookshelf he saw one of the books that konrad was reading closely to his death. “Portals, studies of the ethereal plane” why would he read something this far out of his field? Seth did not know but he found it to be a good token. Later to discover that an envelope of notes was hidden between the pages. Konrad had a necklace that he always had on him, it was hanging on the lamp at his desk, how odd did Seth think, he never took that thing off. The necklace gave him a little bit of nostalgia, decided, il take that with me.

Post prologue

The journey had begun, finally. The excitement that arose in Seth of being in undiscovered lands was huge. The goal of this great adventure had no end, an endless journey. Having a journey with no destination seems very odd, but at the same time makes perfect sense. Seth was enjoying every moment of his life since it took him places he couldn't even dream of. Every step of the was was forward, forward in the endless pursuit of sensation.   One day in Marquadesh Seth was stocking up supplies for a long hike through the desert, he was going to travel to the south part of the *continent. Seth saw a person sitting in the far back of a tavern scribbling in a notebook and had map in front of him.this was nothing rare since there is many merchants mapping out their travels before leaving, naturally. But Seth could not resist to give the map a glance across the room, and noticed it was nothing he recognized. This looked like a map of stars. Now this looked like nothing Seth had ever seen before, the curiosity sparked in him like it did the first time he left the college for the journey. Naturally Seth was a bit shy, but could not ignore this amazing map. After mustering up his courage and bought two glasses of beer at the bar he walked over to the hooded figure. The mysterious man said hello to Seth without even looking at him, How could he notice me walking over in a crowded loud tavern? The man asked if the beer was intender for him or was Seth going to drink both of them. How did he know i had beer in my hand without even looking at me? It didn't matter, Seth was looking at the map laid out on the table while getting very nervous by the man's behaviour.   My name is Jacob, please sit, don't be afraid. At this moment Seth spaced out for a second, after putting the beers on the table and sitting down towards him on the other side of the table. The man snapped with his fingers to get Seth's attention from the map. This man was no ordinary person, usually nothing makes Seth snap out of his small disconnections with the world, his thoughts consume him in a way.   Jacob became the man to show Seth how to travel between planes and other worlds. This started as a weird friendship since they didn't know each other very well, but they had the same burning passion and praised the same mentality about the world and its magnificence. Jacob was some kind of conjurer, not only did he know how to open a portal to another plane of existence but also portals in the same world.   Seth had made a friend, very strange. Seth didn't know very many people on a first name basis, mostly because he spent most of his time in solitude travelling. But Jacob became a very close friend. They travelled together around the desert looking for clues missing pieces of the map jacob had acquired. During their travels together Jacob taught Seth whatever he could, since Seth was much more inexperienced with planar travel. He even taught seth how to use a sword in self defense. This was something new for Seth since he always avoided trouble and conflict like the plague. Jacob was also a man against violence, but knew the importance of being able to defend yourself in this world.   Jacob and Seth one day parted ways. It was no hard feelings between them, it was just a decision both made. Both of them were naturally a lonewolf, not really interested in travelling with people. The journey was something you were supposed to experience yourself without influence. They knew when parting ways that it could be the last time they ever saw each other, or fate would bring them together once more, they did not know. Let the nature of coincidence decide what happens.     Present.   At this very moment Seth is in Marquadesh once again, in the same tavern where he met Jacob. It has been almost five years since they first met. The reason Seth is in the same tavern is because he knows the house owner, Bill Shay. Some supplies is hard to get a hold of and requires Seth to seek out information about it. Usually big cities is good for finding special ingredients or information. This time Seth was not here to stock up on food and water like last time. He was looking for a map, or more a guide. This guide is to help you navigate caverns in the eyre peak mountain. Seth have heard that there is an oasis hidden under the mountain, a magical one.     Story about the dragonmark   As explained before, Seth is an orphan. The dragonmark is probably passed down from his biological parents. The mark of passage is
