Exodists

"The Empire was our home - is still our home - and to return to it will mean entering civilisation once again. Some might stay on Arcadia, whilst others long to return to Earth or New Vasgarthia. If the option is there, who are we to deny anyone their right to choose?"
Exodists, although not being the largest group of people on Arcadia, are nonetheless prominent enough to have a considerable impact on its affairs. Regarded as the antithesis to Isolationism, followers of the Exodist Imperative believe that all efforts should be concentrated on contacting the Earth Empire for rescue and reconciliation, or somehow managing to leave the atmosphere of the planet to find a functioning spacecraft and return home. For this reason, Exodists were far more common in the aftermath of The Collapse than they are in the present day, as the fear of being cut-off from the rest of civilisation has somewhat cooled over the centuries. However, the drive to return to the stars has not receded in some, and they consider themselves to be true citizens of the Earth Empire and, historically, the original colonisers. Today, Exodists are a generally scattered people (with the exception being that of the E/E/E) that thrive on their technologists and engineers. Although often considered fractious and even violent in their pursuit of technological preservation and development, Exodists as a whole are usually peaceable when treated fairly and more than willing to trade for what they need. A lot of negativity surrounding the culture has arisen from the terrorist activities of The Red Network, a splinter group of the E/E/E who take the tenets of the Exodist Imperative to the extreme. Despite this, Isolationists tend to have dim view on Exodists and see them as a potential threat to their way of life, even if their goals seem unlikely to find success.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Exodist tenets and shared customary values tend towards the progress and preservation of technology, the acquisition of information regarding the Earth Empire, and the security of their people and assets. Some of the core tenets are as follows:
  • "We must not settle for anything less than being integrated with civilisation once again": Exodists believe that the Earth Empire was the height of civilisation and progress, and that being cut-off from that risks throwing the inhabitants of Arcadia into technological stagnancy and, at worst, decay. Although some technological progress has been made since The Collapse, it is minimal compared to what could have been done in almost two centuries had the Earth Empire and all its resources and power still been accessible. Exodists just want a return to the old days, when travel and communication between the stars was seamless.
  • "Most of our ancestors had families they left behind when coming to Arcadia, and even now, we long for the connections of home": Exodist mantra is that of homesickness and a huge sense of loss which cannot be repaired unless a way back home is found. Even centuries down the line, Earth and New Vasgarthia are held in the highest esteem to the point of deification, especially as no one alive remembers what it is like to step on a different planet. Plenty wonder at what the family their ancestors left behind looks like after all this time.
  • "The preservation of technology is extremely important, and it is our mission to make sure we lose as little of it as possible": Whereas Isolationists seek to understand Arcadia and shut themselves off from whatever lies outside the planet, Exodists are hard at work scouring the world for anything from pre-Collapse times, when space travel and interstellar communication was a reality. Ultimately they hope to either discover a way off-world or communicate with whoever is still out there, but in the meantime, they try their best to make sure that technological decay is minimised as much as possible. They see Isolationists and their need to keep technology out of the hands of Exodists as considerable irritants that are bumbling around with things they barely understand.

Major organizations

Exodists are almost non-existent in Isolationist factions, and are generally scattered among the many independent settlements that have sprung up across New Lakonia and beyond. However, their largest and most organised faction is that of the E/E/E (Earth Empire Exodists), who are considered to be moderate Exodists. Other more extreme groups are The Red Network and the Suns of Earth, who commit terrorist acts in a bid to control technology and Arcadia's precious resources.
