Blue Plateau Rainforest

Land of Azurite, Shrouded in Mists

The Blue Plateau Rainforest is a sub-tropical forested region to the south east of the Trotonas Mountains and north east of the river deltas in New Lakonia. Due to it being extremely difficult to get to, as the rainforest itself is perched atop a sheer-sided shelf of raised land with the mountains to its rear, the area is largely unexplored and unclaimed. In-depth observations taken by The Southern Alliance near the location tend to have been through drones capable of flying into the area and collecting imaging data. The rainforest itself is 730,498 km² and estimated to be younger than that of the Anapteros Forest at 33 million years old, born in the aftermath of when the volcanoes in the Trotonas range were at their most active. It is believed that the shelf is the result of an earthquake strong enough to trigger several eruptions; the land was not only raised upwards but supplemented by the flow of lava and rock from the mountains, creating an environment ripe for new growth as the enriched soil cooled. For this reason, the plant and animal life found in the Blue Plateau Rainforest is some of the most unique found yet on Arcadia, especially from an evolutionary perspective. The region gets its name from the trees having a blueish tinge to their foliage, as well as the fact that the huge copper deposits found throughout the rainforest are loaded with azurite due to the high precipitation. Its proximity to the mountains keeps the area rather cool compared to the tropical and sub-tropical regions lying closer to sea-level, in the river deltas below, with mist being a common sight over the treetops from warm water vapour being rapidly-cooled by mountain winds.
