Arc Ignis

City of Sculptors

One of the Gemstone Realms, Arc Ignis resembles a living organism more than a large city. Carved literally to the side of a mountainside, it's erupting beauty lie in the unnatural way the city has been built. Lustrous red rubies implemented as central figure of the cities architecture give nearly all of the city streets a vibrant tint of red beneath the rising sun. Known for Arcana Ignis, the city holds many political alliances and utilizes its evocation magics to the best of the academys wizards abilities. Was it war, destruction of a natural location or robust mining operations, Arcana Ignis has found itself despite of its far-away location, at the heart of many political schemes and plots.

Demographics

Arc Ignis has a long history with many threats of the Thirsty Mountainrange, but fighting those threats has also brought many dwarves and dragonborn to their study, even equaling humans in numbers. Other civilized races are only slightly less common both in city and academy, but all are welcome as long as they honor the cities laws and the rules of the academy.

Government

Being no strangers to danger or risky experiments, the wizards of Arcana Ignis have allied themselves as part of the nearest realms to form a coalition. This trade benefits all of the allied realms, as where Arcana Ignis barely has enough food to keep the whole city fed, other realms often suffer from orcish invasions or are terrified of what would happen if Arc Ignis was not keeping an eye on Citadel Phaern, home of the Scalesworn dwarves that is treacherously close to the city of sculptors.

Arcana Ignis

The city of Arcana Ignis is a slowly building one. Rare creatures see their calling in the destructive arts of the academy and even those few that apply mostly hold too much crudges, hatred or insanity in their soul to pass into the academy proper. The highest political organ and protector of the city, the academy has more than skillful mages focused on nearly military-like protection of the city and its inhabitants. As knowledge of the Academy started to spread, more and more desperate northlanders drifted near the same mountains to discover the carved pathways that took up to the main academy. Open-minded, the scholars took civilians under their protection as long as the citizens would take care of themselves in work and building necessary locales to serve them.

Stonepainters [archaic], Red Architects

A slightly misleading name, Stonepainters is a slang to the academys most known architects that the scholars themselves prefer to be called "Red Architects". Often adorned in red jewelry and silks, these artists have studied high decrees of architecture and physics in addition to their magical arts and as such they are responsible for carving their own domains and districts of the city. A Red Architect often before coming one is required as a sign of aptitude to add a new district to the already confusing city-layout of Arc Ignis. A fact known by few is that the Red Architects do not only carve out caves, tunnels and suitable foundations in the mountains, but that most opt to design the coming district by themselves as well. This leads to a fascinating city architecture where every district quite literally reflects their maker.

Ruinbringers

Ruinbringers are the reason why so many catastrophic misconceptions surround Arcana Ignis and its teachings. The rare few that are dedicated enough and strong enough to witness searing of platoons of soldiers with their minds intact become irreplaceable part of any army they belong to. The Ruinbringers often keep their eyes further north, to Citadel Phaern and its inhabitants as well as other dangers that lurk in the Thirsty Mountains. When hired by outside forces, one Ruinbringer is often compared to an entire squad of elite soldiers so they bring a considerable amount of money and commerse towards Arc Ignis.

Peacekeepers

As out of place as their name appears to be, these wizards have studied the few protective elements of evocation arts as well. Even if rarely seen in the city of Arc Ignis, their presence is felt everywhere and it is their duty to oversee the local guard force and they are responsible for law enforcement. On a rare occasion that a Peacekeeper is seen doing his duty in the city, the criminals or bounties the Peacekeeper is after most often surrender the moment they lay their eye on the dark red leathers of the Peacekeeper.

Infrastructure

Competition

Still offering only a near fraction of what most realms produce, life in the city of Arc Ignis is brimming with action and opportunity. As different districts race between one another in a healthy show of mercantilism in attempts to seek more attention and support from the academy, the "ruling streets" and most important businesses might change by the week. Some merchants have taken this lesson by the heart, and move their wares on wagons from streetcorner to streetcorner. This competition rarely bursts out in any form of riots or violent takeovers, as the Peacekeepers rule will make a swift end of any violent uprisings in Arc Ignis.
