Festival of the Apprentice

Every four years, the King of Tarynn hosts a 3-day event in the capital city of Herron to reward those who strive to become better at their profession -- whether it be crafting, alchemy, fighting, magic, or any other pursuit. The Festival of the Apprentice draws competitors from every village, town, and city in the kingdom. Competitors are chosen by the city's leader, and each city can send up to 4 apprentices for every 1,000 subjects. On the first day of the Festival, the contestants meet different leaders in their respective guilds and are given a glimpse of the prestige that awaits them, should they pass The Trials. On the second day, participants are divided into teams and sent into The Arena, an ancient ruins just outside of Herron , filled with monsters, puzzles, and traps. Those who survive are sent to The Trials, a secret ritual overseen by Tarynn's Chosen . The Trials determine the winners' placement within their guild, and each is given 5,000 gold, a title, and a magical item to help them in their profession.   There are rumors that Tarynn's King also chooses a select few winners to join Tarynn's Chosen , though due to the highly secretive nature of the group, this has never been confirmed.
