Tarynn

In the year 945 of the Age of Stability, Flowersmont, Day 27

Created by

For as long as the people of Tarynn can remember, peace has reigned across the land. In most of the settled Kingdom, there has been a period without war, strife, or hunger. Most cities and towns are thriving, and threats of politics, monsters, or economy are few and far between. The Wall protects Tarynn, and the newly-crowned King Lucas the XXI has continued his father's tradition of maintaining and repairing different sections of The Wall, relying upon the strength and skills of Tarynn's Chosen to keep the borders and builders of the land safe from the dangers beyond The Wall.   Tarynn is a deeply magical world, full of once-competing schools of magic. Now, most practitioners of the various magics band together, sharing their knowledge, tricks, and lore in tightly-controlled guilds that serve King Lucas. Ancient ruins of previous civilizations lay dormant, thought to either be ransacked and not worth exploring, or inhabited by monsters and dangerous. Adventurers, merchants, craftsmen, and tradesmen have formed tight communities and are experiencing a sort-of renaissance, due to ease of travel and a strong economy. Trade between cities is robust, and villages are beginning to lose their young sons and daughters to the allure of towns and the promises of a better life in the big city.   However, lately there have been rumors of changes spreading across the land. Giants have been spotted coming down from the mountains to the north, and villages are being attacked by small bands of goblins and kobolds. Castle ruins, caves, and mines are said to be haunted, and some adventurers tell hushed tales of ghouls and ghosts wandering beyond their usual sites.   As Tarynn prepares for the Festival of the Apprentice, King Lucas is sending messengers across the land to announce that this year's Trials would be the biggest and most challenging the apprentices have ever faced - but the rewards, for those few who pass, would be beyond the young contestants' wildest dreams...
