Divine

It is said that ages ago, gods and goddesses roamed the world, assuming human, elf, dwarf, and even halfling form [ed. No records of gnome gods?]. As they walked among mere mortals, they granted their powers to the most devoted of followers, and churches, cathedrals, and monasteries of divine beauty and simplicity were built in their honor. Some gods granted the ability to raise the dead to their followers, while others raised armies of undead or worked to freeze time, in constant war with each other. Their jealousy, cunning, and lust for power and domination over mortals knew no bounds, and perhaps it was this never-ceasing battle, played out among monsters, men, and myths that caused The Leaving.   Unfortunately, when the gods and goddesses abandoned Oris, they took their powers with them. While our modern medicine can cure most common disease and ailments, plagues are the like spread fast and far, without the clerics of old to contain and control them. Resurrection is a thing of the past, and has its place only in fairy tales and dreams. However, there are those across Tarynn who claim to have abilities not unsimilar to the priests and paladins of ancient lore, though they channel their faith and conviction, however placed, to grant their powers. Whether this power is innate or trained is yet unknown, as these neo-clerics often are found alone and wandering, and less likely to form clergies or attract followers. Divine or not, there are certainly those who are preparing for what they see as a triumphant return of their god or goddess - though triumphant for whom is yet to be seen.
