The Cataclyst

Summary

The Cataclyst was the end of the Golden Age, and the beginning of what is now known as the Rebuilding. One day, without warning, the Cataclyst appeared above the now destroyed city of Ashvale as a massive golden box, coming from a crack in the sky. The Cataclyst then opened up, and out flew the Great Destroyers: Huge otherworldly destroyers that ravaged Tarkir. Then came the legions: Monsters unlike the world ever knew. Mindflayers, Mimics, Aboleths, Beholders...It was fortunate that Tarkir of the Golden Age was rich with magic and powerful heroes. In the heavens, cosmic horrors battled the gods. In the end, the Cataclyst is defeated by Syr Gwen wielding the Embercleave flown up to Cataclyst by the ancient sliver dragon known as Whisper. She defeated whatever was inside, but the Cataclyst didn't go down without the last word. The box explodes with with massive magical force, completely annialating the east of Tarkir and sending pieces of the Cataclyst into Tarkir's capitals, destroying them. Thus began the rebuilding. With the capitals gone, magic dwindled, with the only surving capital being Ravnica.
