Saurian

Saurians are a scaled mammalian race with a strong sexual dimorphism. The males of the species are strong and proud warriors while the females are much smaller and take up roles as scientists and sorcerers.
Saurains are notable for their scaled body which acts as armor and their tails which average about 3 feet long.

Social Structure

Caste based society divided into nobles, warriors, and workers. Which caste someone is a part of is determined when they are born. Men have no mobility when it comes to caste. Women have limited mobility with caste, able to marry into higher or lower castes. In the event of a death or an unlikely divorce a female saurian will revert to their previous caste or in a particularly shameful divorce become an outcaste. It is possible for any Saurian to become branded as an outcaste, losing the burdens and protections of society in Saurian lands. Such Saurians tend to seek refuge in lands with few Saurians in them where such a stigma will go unnoticed.

Snout-like mouth and nose with small eyes. While Saurians have body hair they seldom have facial hair.

Common Etiquette Rules

A Saurian-dominated society is heavily caste based with the following code of honor:

• The social structure of the nobles, warriors, workers, and children is unbreakable.
• When two Saurians are of equal status, age determines higher status.
• When age is unknown, either party may take the superior stance. The other must challenge for the right to be superior or accept a submissive role.
• Nobles eat before warriors, who eat before lower classes.
• Only those ready to fight may carry weapons.
• Boasting is for the weak. The brave need only tell the truth to be honored.
• A host must protect guests from physical harm and from insults. In return, guests must not fight their host or bring shame to his household while under his roof.
• Only females eat with both hands. A male must have one hand ready to fight at all times.
• Lower social classes must immediately listen, and obey, the requests of a social superior unless such requests are detrimental to one’s family.
• An insult from a social inferior must be contested in combat or dishonor will fall upon the family. An insult from a higher social class may not be challenged. To do so is to question the honor of the insulter.
• Nobles may claim any unmarried female as their wife, though they must obey the proper traditions of giving dowry to the family.
• The wives of warriors slain in combat may reject future marriage offers from any Saurian.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Saurian culture has clear lines between male and female roles in society. Men will hold positions of direct power, such as commanders of armies and rulers. Females aspire to have more administrative roles and make excellent stewards. While any male noble Saurian can take any woman to be his wife the female Saurians that demonstrate the ability to effectively run an organization or household are particularly prized.
Saurians are a straightforward and direct race and as a race have a diminished ability to be deceitful.

History

Male saurians were used as elite guards in the Terran Empire owing to their exceptional strength, statue, and natural armor. While orcs made up the bulk of the army the saurians were the jewel of the empire's armies. Female saurians are both magically and technologically inclined. Females are credited with the standardization of magical study, to which the namesake of sorcerers derive from.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Saurians tend to get along with other races as long as there's no transgressions with their cultural traditions. They will treat human nobles as nobles, dwarven warriors as warriors, and orcish workers as workers. How strictly a saurian will hold other species to their standards depends on if saurains are the dominate or of a minority species in an area.
