Orc

Orcs are known for being hardy and nomadic. As orcs are able to survive in a variety of climates they make natural merchants and traders. Orcs also have a number of unique traditions and superstitions that vary from tribe to tribe. While they don’t have a unique religion unto themselves, they often incorporate folk lore into the more mainstream religions. Orcs are also notable for being the shortest lived humanoid race.

Naming Traditions

Orcish names vary from place to place, but their full names are usually long and complex. No two orcs have the same first name. Their last name are usually either based on their nomadic caravan or where they have settled down.   Examples: Vlarg'shartook of Crimson Caravan.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Nearly all orcs speak some form of Orcish Trade Speak, giving them limited communication throughout the world and aiding in their nomadic nature.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Orcs are highly social but also competitive. They typically travel around in caravans. Orcish art tends to be macabre and obscene. The strong bellowing voices of Orcs to serve their war-chants and work songs. Orcs have a reputation of being gypsy traders, and while their prices are always reasonable the quality, origin, and whether or not the advertising is accurate is always a matter of suspicion. Orcish fortune tellers are always popular. Orcs have gained a minor reputation of being deceitful because of their trading practices. Orcs have also become a good source of news, rumors, and propaganda.

Every Orc knows about the circumstances of their birth. They know about the stars and the location of the constellations, sun, and moon. They believe that this determines their fate and abilities in life. Every Orc gains a magical ability based on these circumstances.

History

Orcs pre-Terran were typically nomadic, not interacting with the others races. When the Terran Empire showed up they abducted many Orcs into slave-soldiers. Eventually Orcs became respected soldiers in their own right, serving the majority of the rank and file. After the fall of the Terran Empire different orcs took up different walks of life. Some rejoined the nomadic horsemen of the north. Many armies became mercenary bands. Some became wondering traders. A few did end up settling down in cities in Orcish enclaves, viewed with minor suspicion from the other races.

Orcs are tall and robust humanoids, with skin that is green to gray colored. Their hair is almost always black, thin and coarse. They are not furred but their bodies are covered in hair.
