S02E24 - Alan and the great fall Report

General Summary

This session picks up with party pondering who will be the one that will tell Alan.

Informing Alan

Having heard the battle die out, but also taking Gaes damage, Alan wonders what happened - is the battle over? - and cries out, "What's happened?"   Knowing that someone must inform Alan, Joseph covers Bug, scoops up the body and carries it to Alan.   "What is this?" questions Alan, quickly becoming upset.   Joseph begins to explain what happened and that Bug fell in battle. Alan counters that it is Joseph's purpose to fight, to keep this sort of thing from happening.   As Alan's anger grows, Joseph continues his feeble attempts to comfort him. He offers to allow Alan to punch him and also comments that Bug can be resurrected; that perhaps this will be a learning experience for Big.   Alan becomes visibly angry, blaming Joseph and lashing out against anything that is said. He also comments that the Goblin cast a spell on him.   Alan ends his rant by telling Joseph that he is a nuisance and a threat to the wellbeing of the group. He adds thatJoseph may join them in any battles, for what little good that may do, but that he is to remain at least 30 feet from the party at all times. That especially applies to Bug, with whom he may not speak, eat or even approach.   As Joseph continues to attempt to calm Alan, Alan points out that Joseph has done nothing but bring bad luck to the party.   Although he is hurt, Joseph continues to deescalate the situation and Alan eventually scoops up Bug and takes him down the hall just a bit.

Addressing Gunther

Having learned that Alan is under some sort of spell from Gunther, Joseph seeks out Mr. Garrick.   "Gunther works for you, does he not? You are responsible for him, right?" Joseph lashes out.   "Sure." responds Mr. Garrick nonchalantly.   "He cast a spell on Alan," Joseph seethes.   As if oblivious to the emotions being put forth, Mr. Garrick gives a dispassionate response. "I'm sure he had a good reason."   Frustrated or perhaps realizing this conversation was going no where, Joseph informs Garrick that he would like to talk to Gunther and receives the laid-back reply of "I'll let him know."   Soon after, Gunther approaches Joseph and is questioned about the spell.   "Alan was going to make a terrible mistake but I stopped him."   "Mistake? How?" questioned Joseph.   "With a spell," responded Gunther.     Attempting to learn more, Joseph presses on. "A good spell?"   "My old master used it all the time," responds Gunther.

Visitors

The party hears thuds coming from behind them. As they turn they see a hulking frame under fine purple silk then soon smell the stench of farm.   The well dressed, but onerous being introduces himself as Darry, from Emerald Enclave, sent him to check on the party.   Immediately upon seeing him, Nightfall informs Alan that he hates Darry and Alan considers killing him.   With Darry is a Tabaxi aide that goes by the name Russel.   With permission, Darry begins to assemble and conduct the ritual to bring Bug back from the dead. Joseph prays to Torm and Garrick casts Leomond's Tiny Hut then concentrates on his arcana skills to assist in any way he can. Seeing all that is happening, Gunther summons his spirit horse, hoping to help.   Bug awakens and almost immediately embraces Alan. Bug is still cursed and is now exhausted.

Finishing What You Start

Gash, as before, attempts to talk the party into hunting the remaining minotaurs.   Alan actually agrees, it may be a chance for vengeance. Hearing the conversation, Bug quickly agrees, which causes Alan to have doubts - perhaps rushinging in again would not be the best thing for Bug.   More conversation leads them to seek the priestess and the remaining minotaurs.   Gash takes them on a winding journey through the labyrinth. It becomes apparent to Darry and to Joseph that Gash has begun to loop through certain parts of the maze, prolonging their journey.   Joseph quietly catches up to Gash and asks why they are delaying. Gash responds that he is scared of Alan: He was told to take them to the Minotaurs or Alan would kill him and he was also reminded that if he led them to Minotaurs Alan had said he would kill him.   Joseph points out that if Alan finds out about the delay and circular routes that they have been taking he would certainly kill Gash. Joseph also offered a limited amount of protection if they found the minotaurs.     With that assurance, Gash quickens his pace and leads them to an open area where a few minotaurs have gathered. Peeking around the corner, the party sees 2 priestesses - one of which is on a pedestal - and a minotaur guard.   They formulate and execute an attack. One of the priestesses responds with a fireball. The guard is quickly killed, but other minotaurs - with misty step - enter the battle from the side tunnels.   Blows continue to be exchanged and damage is done to both sides. As the party concentrates on the priestesses, one of the minotaurs retreats knowing that they are overwhelmed. Soon after both of the priestesses fall in battle.

Rewards Granted

Having overcome these last two battles, the party needs rest, but feels energized. Their skill levels have increased and they are now level 12.
