Commiform

The Commiform is the primary means of naval navigation in Tamiya. When built they can be setup to lead to single points always showing the straight line route. Some of the more advanced designs can be setup to navigate a route via multiple way points.

The origins of the Commiform have been lost to time some of the oldest known examples are over 3000 years old. for unknown reasons most of Commiforms of this age no longer function. This has many academics very curious as the principals that the Commiform work on should not be affected by the passage of time. the leading theory for this currently is that some form of large astronomical event substantially changed the orbits of the two moons or that there may have been a 3rd moon at one point in history that was destroyed.

Despite the passage of time some ancient Commiforms do still function usually leading to hidden ruins. Sometimes these ruins have undiscovered treasures or antiquities that can be sold at auction or on the black market for large sums of money. This has led to a lucrative black market for antique or exotic Commiforms. Pirates will often raid a ship and take only commiforms that they find in hopes that they lead to riches and easy money.

Custom Commiforms are particularly important to pirate captains as they often will be the only way to navigate to their horde.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

All forms of the Commiform function by harnessing the energy let off from Tamiyas two large moons, Artest and Havarsh. By tuning the Commiforms by the use of various build materials and gemstones they can be setup to navigate to different locations or a route with multiple waypoints. Most engineers are able to build Common Brass Commiforms however more advanced designs often require the involvment of an alchemist and master craftsman with expertise in the base material being used.

Manufacturing process

Manufacturing Typically involves Casting and/or Carving the base material. The next main step is embedding of the gemstones to pickup energy in the correct frequency range. once the gemstones are embedded Runes must be carved into the Commiform arms to take the energy absorbed into the gemstones and transfer it into a mechanical energy to aim the pointer arms. the Final step is forging and heat treating the base material to fine tine the frequency of energy transferred from the gemstones to the runes if this is incorrect the Commiform will be either wildly inaccurate or lead to the wrong places. This has caused some sailors to get lost at sea due to having their Commiform made by untrustworthy or inexperienced craftsman.
