Government
Whitmere is run by a Mayor who is voted in every ten years. Every citizen of the town gets a vote and the most popular candidate gets the position.
Defences
Whitmere has a small volunteer militia made up of the towns citizens, but otherwise has no other method of defending the town. Recently the militia has been disbanded due to Cretion's declaration of Martial Law, and the placement of Legion Guard within every town. Thunderrock Industries employs a number of mercenaries to guard their property but these men and women rarely care for the troubles of the town.
Industry & Trade
Whitmere is mainly a mining town, especially since Thunderrock Industries moved in. Most inhabitants who aren't a part of the farming association make their money working in the mines.
Assets
The Giant’s Thumb
The Giant’s Thumb is the only tavern in Whitmere. It’s owned by Aleida Fenwick who also acts as the chef. The bar is run by Matilda Cloudfang and has a few server’s as well (Benjamin, Sabrina, and Maria). Aleida often keeps to herself because of her heritage and lets Matilda run the place.
The tavern is relatively large. It has one main common room filled with tables and a small stage. The bar is along the wall opposite the door. On either side of the room is a staircase that leads upstairs to the rooms.
Forging Ahead
While there are many forges within Whitmere, the only one available to regular consumers is Forging Ahead. It is owned and operated by Felver, a fiery rock gnome who’s had his shop in Whitmere for over 200 years. When Thunderrock Industries moved in, they tried to oust him, but due to the age of his shop, both it (and he) were deemed a ‘Historic Site’ and he stayed.
Lionsshare Imports
Lionsshare Imports was purchased years ago by Thunderrock industries back in the capital. They’ve since then built a shop anywhere they can. In Whitmere, they saw the people would be espesially difficult to sway to their side and, in the face of losing business, brought in a Kenku named Thunder. Few people can be mad at Thunder and since she arrived Lionsshare Imports has flourished. The shop sells everything but food. It’s focus however is imported mining equipment from the capital which it sells to the miners.
Atheena’s Accessories
Atheena Mistsplitter is one of the few vendors in Whitmere. Victoria Farlight tried to shut her shop down, but because she doesn’t sell anything mining related the shop stayed open. Atheena works with Felver to sell his gear. She also sells food, crafts, and other similar things from the local community.
Greythorn Manor
Sitting on a hill, looking over Middlehope Plantation is Greythorn Manor. Long abandoned, the local farmers have converted it into a stable/barn in order to house their livestock, horses and grain. Hidden under a trap door is the entrance to a small gambling den where a select few people are invited to spend some time (and money) away from the prying eyes of Thunderrock Industries. Middlehope Plantation
What used to be a single large farm has become plots of land sectioned off for the different farmers of the community. The fields are filled with potatoes, green-beans, radishes, and lettuce, as well as some short corn that’s used as animal feed and to make whiskey. The farmers govern themselves and make sure that everyone always has a plot of land somewhere on the plantation.
Guilds and Factions
Thunderrock Industries
Thunderrock Industries, when they moved in, needed space for their forges and warehouses. They purchased the old, smaller warehouses, tore them all down, then built massive ones in the place of the old. The entire area is fenced in, and there are only two entrances. One at the back for hauling carts of ore through, and the administrative building at the front. The only thing the townsfolk know about administration is that that’s where their pay comes from. Everything else that goes on inside that building is kept secret from the town, to the point that Thunderrock Industries brought people from the capital to work there instead of using locals. Foreman Victoria Farlight runs the operations in Whitmere with an iron fist.
The Farming Association
A small group of farmers who govern themselves within the laws of Whitmere. They provide Whitmere's citizens with enough food to get by. Thunderrock Industries has been trying for years to shut the association down so that the people of Whitmere will have to purchase imported goods.
Geography
Whitmere is based at the foothills of the mountains. It sits on a raised part of the otherwise flat landscape. A small river passes by the town, released from somewhere within the mountains.
Natural Resources
Ore from the mines, mainly iron. Some root vegetables and corn, as well as livestock such as cows, pigs, and goats.
