Jonathan Ravnio

"I heard that he can control your mind from half a mile away."
"Well, I heard that he once killed an entire squad of hostile Akrexians without even standing up from his chair."
— Two gossiping IRUS soldiers

President Jonathan Ravnio is the current leader of IRUS, and is said to be one of the most powerful psionics alive. In addition to his formidable mental powers, he possesses a sharp mind for both business and military strategy. He leaves matters of diplomacy to his vice president Athry Silith, but her talent for negotiation has become more and more obsolete in recent years as IRUS becomes more militant and overbearing.

Rise to Power

Ravnio's rise through the ranks of IRUS to become its president is marked with speculation and mystery. Official record shows that he joined the military organization as a soldier 27 years ago in 17 ADL when he was 20, and was quickly enrolled in psionic training when he demonstrated potent psionic abilities. He quickly outclassed everyone in his training squad, and was personally taken in by his commander who gave him special training.

After six months of mentoring, the young Ravnio was deployed to a mission to make peace with alien explorers who wished to settle in a canyon near a human settlement on a faraway world --- a place with abundant resources that the humans weren't keen to share with strangers. It was supposed to be a simple peacekeeping operation, but after multiple days of attempting to negotiate with the two groups, neither side would compromise. Then, things took a turn for the worse. A group of angry humans vandalized buildings in the newborn alien settlement, and the aliens returned the slight tenfold, launching a full-scale assault on the human settlement. IRUS was forced to defend the town, and most of the alien group who had landed on the planet were slain; the few survivors got back in their ship and left the planet to search for new horizons and nurse their wounds.

This incident was very controversial among the humans of Passe-Rath, and opinion was divided among whether IRUS was justified in killing the alien settlers. However, for IRUS internally, several higher-ups took notice of the brave young man who saved lives and fought powerfully in battle. Over the next few years, he was deployed to several important missions in between a renewed schedule of specialized psionic training in each of the four classes. Rumor has it that he went on many more missions than what the records show --- that he was deployed to a plethora of classified assignments. Ravnio denies this.

After 11 years of military and peacekeeping service traveling across the galaxy, a 31-year-old Ravnio decided to retire from deployment and focus on analytics, intelligence, and logistics. He was the catalyst behind many more successful operations from military to negotiation to covert tasks. Over the years, he rose up the corporate ladder of the administration of IRUS until he was one of the highest ranking members of the administration.

At the Top

Ravnio spent another two years as Chairman of Galactic Operations, the third most important position in IRUS behind the President and Vice President. The then-current President, Howman Dtreila, was a well-known figure who led IRUS with a firm grip and future-oriented mind. What the official records won't tell you, though, is that President Dtreila despised Ravnio for reasons unknown. This wasn't a well-known fact, and only high-ranking members (or low-ranking members very tuned in to gossip) saw enough interaction between the two to realize this. No one knows why Dtreila hated Ravnio --- unless someone besides Dtreila knew, the reason for his opposition died in 39 ADL.

On Dhein 2, five years ago, a tragedy struck the megacity Corlisk in the late morning. An unknown individual struck at the heart of the megacity in a psionic terrorist attack and revealed the existence of Biophagy to the world. He was swiftly captured by IRUS and taken away, never to be seen or heard of again, but not before killing dozens --- including President Dtreila and his Vice President. They had traveled to Corlisk for a yearly important IRUS meeting, and happened to be walking through the plaza where the terrorist struck when it happened. Some call this an accident, some say it was intentional, others claim a conspiracy; in any case, it was Ravnio who was next in line to become President of IRUS.

Leadership

For the past five years, President Ravnio has been spearheading IRUS's efforts in creating a unified galaxy and protecting Passe-Rath from the forces that would seek to hurt it. At least, that's what IRUS is supposed to be doing --- in reality, IRUS has become more and more antagonistic towards other planets and civilizations in the name of safety for Passe-Rath, as well as greatly expanding its authority over both Passe-Rath and the rest of Sytalion. This was seen as justified nearly 40 years ago after the Destruction of Light when IRUS was desperately trying to find the saboteur of Astress and Cosmei, but all this time later with no perpetrator found, people are starting to wonder if IRUS's actions are justified. Of course, most of this controversy was pointed at the president before Ravnio, but Ravnio has only been intensifying the course of action IRUS has taken.

Youth

Not much is known about Ravnio's life before he joined IRUS. His parents are known only by name --- Elisa and Marroc Ravnio --- but no one knows where they live or how to contact them, or even if they're still alive. Official records show that he attended the Saltcell Academy for Gifted Children as a kid in eastern Passe-Makoa, but no former classmates or teachers have come forth for interviews about the young life of Ravnio despite news agencies actively searching for them. The only publicly known relative of Ravnio is his twin brother Sebastes. Unlike his brother, he is not successful and is not known to have psionic abilities, and he lives in a small apartment in eastern Passe-Makoa. Despite much attention from press, he has never given any information about Jonathan and declines all interviews.

"Sure, he's a brilliant strategist and leader, as well as one of the most powerful psionics of the modern age. But I worry that he doesn't have enough compassion or empathy to make the right decisions when the stakes are high."
