Companion Zostas

A native of South Enthar, Zostas became the first Companion, due mostly to his stubbornness and unwavering loyalty to Archivist Qisp, rather than any real desire to make a name for himself in history.
Zostas is not only the first Companion, but he is widely considered amongst their ranks to be a representation of what a Companion should be. He holds a venerated position amongst their ranks, although there are now no Companions living that knew Zostas first-hand.

Personality

Zostas was widely regarded as an unpleasant fellow. He didn't make friends easily in The City, although until he was raised as a Companion and given rank, Zostas wasn't often allowed in the Archives themselves at all. Not one to mince words, or to deal in pleasantries or niceties, Zostas was often preferred in his silent broody form. Watching over Qisp, but otherwise keeping his distance from anyone else.

Abilities

As a Shiften, Zostas had three recorded animal forms. His primary form was that of a vekethe, a desert-dwelling big cat native to Enthar, his second learned form was a harpy eagle, and his last a jaguar. It is believed that Archivist Qisp also had a jaguar form, although the archivist's shiften abilities were far outweighed in recorded history by that of his planar studies. Although it has been argued that Zostas and Qisp were more than friends and companions, it is believed that neither Zostas nor Qisp found their true mates. Not with each other or with anyone else.

History

Born in South Enthar, it is believed that Zostas was orphaned early on in his life. Taken in by a traveling orphanage that eventually made it's way to Tinobi, Zostas in his early teens found himself in the vicinity of a young, adventurous, if foolhardy, Qisp. The two began their friendship at the tender ages of twelve and ten and were inseparable since, although two more disparate boys couldn't be found. Their similarities, perhaps, lay in their lack of care for how they are perceived by others.
Zostas followed Qisp to the City when the younger man moved inland to pursue a career as an Archivist, and while he must have invested in physical and mental training in some kind of warfare, as evidenced by his later history as Qisp's protector, there are no verifiable records of exactly where and what Zostas' movements were in these years.
Eventually, when Archivist Qisp began to travel off-continent to further his planar studies, Zostas was by his side.
