Xue's Song

Uncountable years ago, when the world was new, and the Gods still lived among us. Xue, the first Seer was born. She wasn’t always a Seer. Xue lived a normal, happy childhood. No strange occurrences, nothing out of the ordinary. Just a child who grew up on her mother’s lap, then out in her father’s field, and finally, in the temple at The Maiden’s feet. The Maiden didn’t sit upon a throne, nor did she rule over mortals from the coverage of a divine castle. She made her home during the day among the Aeshir.   Xue was The Maiden’s most beloved sister. The Maiden would never have daughters nor sons of her own, but she could have siblings.   The Gods were fighting amongst themselves, and The Maiden knew she would have to retreat from the mortal realm if she wanted to protect her brothers and sisters from the devastating power of a Godly war. Before she did, she granted Xue a small portion of her power, leaving a link between them that could never be severed.   When the Gods built The Barrier, Xue’s connection to The Maiden remained. It was through Xue, that The Maiden was able to keep contact with the Aeshir. Speaking through her chosen one, although The Barrier, made to protect the Aeshir from the Gods, occasionally garbled the transmission.   But Xue was always mortal, no matter her open link to The Maiden. But The Maiden, knowing her sister’s time was up, couldn’t stand the knowledge that she would simply return to the aether and be absorbed. The belief that souls would live on in the divine realm was a fallacy, one the Gods had sworn they would never directly contradict.   The Maiden loved her sister, and she loved the world, but for the first time, she was selfish.   Before Xue could pass on, her body melt into the ground and her soul be absorbed into the aether to add to the power of the universe, The Maiden changed Xue. Not able to physically reach through the divine gate, The Maiden metamorphosed the power inside Xue, expanding it, using it to alter Xue’s physical form into something that could never die.   It is believed she was turned into an island, somewhere off the northern coast of Nalys.

Historical Basis

While Xue is widely understood from historical records to be the first Seer, her relationship with The Maiden, and her subsequent island-form is not accepted by most. Xue Island had a distinct topography, however. From the water, the hills make it look somewhat similar in shape to that of a large woman lying on her side. The tiny island that Xue Island curves around, is believed to be either Xue's hand, with the rest of her arm underwater, or some sort of physical gift from The Maiden. The myth differs slightly in this sense across the world, explaining what exactly that gift might be.

Spread

It is widely believed that Xue was the first Seer, in written record and otherwise. Whether or not the island of Xue, also known as the Speak Isles by Entharians, or Toryskel by those from Tinobi, is the physical form of the first Seer, is up for debate.
