The King's County

History

The King's County is the seat of power for the King of the Unition of Almusia. A conglomerate of countries merged after the war for leadership amongst the majority of the continent of Almusia. While war still rages on between the Unition's nearest neighbours, Kerellon and Derenell, and the mountains that bisect the continent kept Abria's leadership their own, the four countries once known as Schaur (in the north west), Halareya (the south west), Eldasia (the central north), and Kulora (the east) were united under one banner and forcibly integrated. Royal families were allowed to keep small sections of land for themselves and their families, which were converted into counties for them to oversee and the most senior individuals were relegated to the status of 'Lord Warden'. This allowed them a seat on the Lord's Council to advise the King of The Unition of Almusia, but their royal blood is no longer recognised under the Unition's rule.

Geographics

The only royal family that perservered was that of Eldasia. The Eldasian royal family, now the royal family of The Unition, operates out of the King's County. Guarded on one side by the mountain range along the edge of the Unition's territory, bordered on two sides by the largest, fast-flowing rivers that traverse from the mountains and distribute water to a large part of the Unition, the King's County owns some of the best arable land in the Unition. Beyond the King's Palace, and the sprawling metropolis of the capital city of Estren the palace is nestled within, the vast majority of the King's County is agricultural farmland. The King's County, of course, it also the largest county in The Unition.

Government

While Syshir would know the system of government that runs The Unition as 'a unition' it is best compared to a monarchy in modern terms. The King has ultimate power over decisions pertaining to the Unition, although he allows Lords to rule in his place across the Unition.   The ranks go as such:
King: King Alsaran
Queen Consort: Queen Amatta
Princess/Princes: Princess Valiana   Lord Warden: Four representatives from what used to be the four disparate countries of The Unition. These individuals hold a seat on the Lord's Council, and oversee a handful of counties in what used to be their 'country' as well as their own home-state.
Lord's Council: This council includes the four Lord Wardens and chosen Lords who have been granted specialist positions by the King. These include Lord of Ships, Lord of Coin, Lord of Agriculture, and a variety of other titles that the King can create or dissolve as he sees fit. These individuals often are Lords of individual counties already (see below), but do not have to be.   Lords: These Lords have inherited rule of counties and as such gain a seat on the Lord's Enclave. This enclave meets biennally and is often a place to sow alliances amongst other counties of the Unition. These Lords, while the figurehead and leader of their county, sit below both their respective Lord Warden and the King himself. It is considered a faux pas, however, to entirely overrule a Lord's plans in his own county. They are often convinced to see the way of the Council before any wide-spread official announcements are made. There are 25 Lords, and 29 counties, in the Unition.

It is nice getting to see it explained so succinctly. The Unition always threw me >> but I dig it and it makes more sense to me now.

Haha danke. I know you hate the country/county thing, so I'm glad this worked as a brief overview :3

Nice little layout article on the capital. Does the king limit the troops the Wardens and Lords are allowed or are they strictly under royal command and leaders?

So, when the countries were United all the brand-shiny-new-Wardens had their armies disbanded or enveloped under the King's banner. That has been 'relaxed' somewhat since then, they've been 'gifted' armies by the King to help protect their Wards. It hasn't happened *yet* but Lords and Wardens would be limited if they started to amass too many troops, and the King could theoretically commandeer any troops from across the Unition just cause he can.
