Terethyn's Rising

History

Terethyn's Rising began post-Barrier, when the Gods and their direct influence had left the Mortal Realm in favour of their Divine Plane. The Shiften had always believed their gift was of the Gods, but without their direct knowledge, they developed their own explanations for exactly how and why. The rumour began that their shifting powers became increased while a large, red planet could be seen in the sky. They took that to mean that their Goddess had made her dwelling there.

Components and tools

Food and drink are an important part of any Terethyn's Rising celebration. While not as all-encompassing as The Treatise (Terethyn's Rising is typically celebrated on clan-land, and doesn't involve a nation-wide journey to Sandstep), every Shiften community takes time to celebrate the homeland of their Goddess.    In Tanglemist, natural hallucinogens are also an important part of the celebration. When the bonfires are lit on the last night of Terethyn's Rising, Tanglemist Shiften burn the gecha vine, and in the colourful hallucinations brought about by the vine, the clan dances together until Terethyn disappears.

Participants

While Terethyn's Rising is only recognised in Shiften societies, should non-Shiften be visiting or living on Tinobi during the two weeks where Terethyn can be seen, they are more than welcome to join in the festivities. While there are some events a non-Shiften can't contribute to, such as the races or the fights, there are always large parties with food, dancing, and performing that anyone is welcome to.   The second week of Terethyn's Rising is also the first celebration attended by a new Prishiften, for those in Sandstep. The first Terethyn's rising of a year is when a new Prishiften can be chosen, and the second is their first official event. They must conduct the opening ceremony of the celebration the evening after Terethyn's red light is seen.

Observance

Terethyn, is a large, red, celestial body, that can be seen in the skies of Tinobi for two weeks every year. The first week, in the 3rd month, and the second in the 9th month. Terethyn's Rising is celebrated all throughout those two weeks, the culmination of the celebration when Terethyn's last night can be seen on the horizon.
