Oracle

Servants of Kinadra, Sister of Dreams, the Dreamer, are granted the title of ‘Oracle’ once they reach a certain rank within the temple’s service and make up the vast majority of their number.   Temples of the Dreamer are often hazy, smoky places, heavy with mind-altering substances thought to bring themselves closer to their Goddess. After all, if you dream all the time, you are always walking in the domain of the Dreamer.   Oracle’s are a mid-level rank under the Dreamer’s watch. An individual will enter the temple, make their first vow to dream and to serve, and be classed as an ‘Orphan’. As the Goddess of runaways, Kinadra takes all under her wing. It means, however, that one much relinquish familial bonds to be taken into her family. One is orphaned from the mortal world, but taken into hers.   Once an Orphan has demonstrated appropriate service, and trained under the temples for some years, an Orphan may be promoted to an Oracle. Oracles are the everyday caretakers of a temple or place of worship. They interact with worshippers, clean and maintain temples and curate the dream-like experience of visiting a temple of the Dreamer.

Ranks:

Orphan - entry level rank, trainees, who haven’t fully devoted themselves.
Oracle - mid level rank
Omen - interpreters of the Dreamer, rare
Orazor - high level rank

Notable Holders

Saremka - Love interest of book 9 of the Syshir Siblings (Zaben’s Book). Saremka is a particularly notable (although not well-known) member of the Dreamer’s worship. Unbeknownst to anyone beyond herself, after Garadoc’s betrayal of Kinadra in their joint-venture to kill and displace Worund, Saremka found herself the host of what remained of Kinadra’s divine essence. Weakened by Garadoc’s attack, and torn apart by a forceful trip through The Barrier, Kinadra needed a mortal body to attach herself to in order to survive and persevere in Syshir.   In doing so, Saremka gained the ability to manipulate aether in non-standard ways. She can pull power from the living world without risk of taking the life essence of a creature or thing. She also doesn’t age, being maintained by Kinadra’s divine essence, although she can be killed by other means. And far less pleasant than the other new abilities, Saremka has gained another voice in her head. Although Kinadra struggles to manipulate the body of her host, the Goddess is certainly present and can communicate with her.   While Saremka's importance in the world may not be well-known, she is undoubtedly the most important Oracle to have ever lived.

I feel like drugs are just cheating. XD If you really wanna dream, you best commit to sleep! Curious what sort of teachings or service an orphan goes through to advance. Saremka sounds fun too. I love and appreciate the little chapter notes and explanations. Since I'm so good at retaining stuff like that >>

*laughs* 'tis also a bit for me too. Writing these articles at a period in time *before* a lot of the events of the books have happened was messing with me. I wanted the Dreamer to have a bit of a... nunnery vibe, just with drugs XD Orphans are probably the equivalent of postulants or novices (I think)

*dying* Nunnery... with drugs. Yup. That all checks out.
