Ngulang

Ngulang, a towering stone building built in and around the trunk of a nidqua tree, resides in the heart of the town of Haighbahn. It stands out amongst the other buildings in the town, broader, wider, the largest and most impressive of the constructions. It's iconic, with few other Itaniougho cities sporting such a feat of nature and architecture.   While seemingly overgrown at first glance, vines and roots grow through constructed channels on the side of the pale stone building, both allowing the easy delivery of water to the tree's system and encouraging the plant growth to work with the building, rather than breaking through the stone to seek light and sustenance. Moss pads the ground of the steps, providing a thin barrier against the cold stone, for those traversing Ngulang without shoes.    Inside Ngulang:
* The entry hall is vaulted, with broad archways and large round windows letting out the soft golden glow of firelight. What once would have been likened to a throne room, a raised dias on one end of the room that may have housed such a throne, is now filled with padded chairs, rugs, and cushions, a social area for the residents of Haighbahn to meet, discuss, and socialise amongst themselves.
* The upper floors include an expansive bedroom surrounded by five smaller rooms, each with a private entryway to the primary bedroom. Although how these rooms house the elders of the town, and doorways have been barricaded to provide more privacy to the occupants, they once would have held the Fae Highest and her harem.
* Above in rooms that may have once been storage or workshops, the town's crafters operate. It makes the Ngulang so much more than just a town hall, but it is the centre of all activity for Haighbahn. Ngulang is so large that it can house all of the town's residents for their day-to-day work with only a slight squeeze, although it isn't strictly necessary.   See below an expert from Book 12 of the Syshir Siblings - Euan sees Ngulang for the first time.
"They aren't Fae," Euan commented unnecessarily and was gifted a droll look from his companion. Obviously, they weren't Fae. The people he walked past were similar in complexion and look to the man with him. Handsome flat noses, high cheekbones, round, strong jaws, and they were all glaring at him with suspicion.   A couple of people looked as if they went to speak, but his escort raised a hand and they fell quiet. Euan felt particularly out of place here. His siblings had always described him as 'pretty'. Faeran had always been the handsome one, Vodan striking behind his scowl, and Euan was pretty. Which was fine with him. Until he was walking through a city of strong, handsome-looking individuals who looked as if they were going to eat him alive. He wasn't going to say that his escort, with hair buzzed short on the sides of his head, a loose braid barely containing the rest of his hair was the handsomest... merely because Euan didn't quite think that would be appropriate.   They turned a corner and a huge building loomed ahead. It looked as if someone had tried to build a castle inspired by a tree. It was around a tree, he thought, that or the tree had grown through it after the fact. A thick trunk with wide, spreading boughs blocked the light from the late afternoon sun and caused it to filter down in a way that seemed to make the pale light dance and bounce off the lamps that lit the side of the path.   The rest of the town was impressive of course. Beautiful stone-wrought buildings, covered in vines, blanketed with moss, half-in and half-out of the natural world. But this was something else entirely.   "Holy Brightness..." Euan breathed. From the corner of his eye, he thought he saw his companion's lips twitch briefly in a smirk before it was smothered. Shaking his head to clear his mind from the overwhelming beauty of it all, Euan reached out to grab his companions arm and stop him. "I thought you were taking me to see the Fae."   The man frowned down at Euan's grip on his arm, and refusing to be shamed for it, Euan slowly, intentionally, let go of him. "I said I could take you, Euan. Not that I would," he answered, crossing his arms.   Euan scowled at him. "And I said that was just fine, and I'd go alone. So why did you bring me here... and where even is here?"   Dark eyes regarding him intently, the man didn't answer immediately. Euan wanted to shake the words out of him. Eventually, he answered, "This is Haighbahn. I'm taking you to Ngulang to speak to the elders." He gestured behind him at the expansive tree-building.   "Are they going to take me to the Fae?"   The man shrugged.   Euan rolled his eyes, muttering, "Helpful," underneath his breath, before sighing and moving ahead to the building the man had gestured at. The man... he really should. "If you're going to turn me over to get me in trouble, will you at least tell me your name so I can curse it?" He asked oh-so-sweetly.   Again, the smile granted to him was blinding. Although annoying, he really was very handsome. "Heskanghaliam. Although Heskan might be easier for your tongue to curse."   "Thanks," Euan said dryly, already trying to parse the name in his own head, trying to silently sound out the syllables so he could curse him good and proper.

*oogles* where does one have to be a fly on the wall to get more of those two? >>   Also, yes, the place is lovely. But it's your fault for distracting me in such a way. No one to blame but yourself.
