Neverend Quill

The Neverend Quill, a favourite of academics and scribes, is a simple tool that vastly minimises the equipment needed to support note-taker roles. If in possession of a Neverend Quill, you'll never have to carry a satchel full of ink bottles with you again.   First designed by Creationmage Volriy, an Enthar Empire emigrant to The Unition of Almusia, the Neverend Quill is now spread far and wide across Syshir. Creationmage Volriy attempted, at first, to hide how he created such an item, trying to create a monopoly on the tool. Nearly a decade after it was first designed, the technique was leaked, and now can be created by any mage with a semblance of creation-based magics.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Inside the small inkwell in the tip is a gem imbued with aether. This aether energy has been attuned to continually replicate the ink around it when there is room to do so. Drawing on the aether by the gem does not require a mage's presence. This draw of power to replenish ink occasionally is small enough that it can be maintained by the inherent aether energy in the gem, and while the newly created ink is being consumed, the gem replenishes its native aether energy.

Significance

The predecessor of the Neverend Quill was one of the first pieces of permanent magic. While now it is commonplace and easy to procure, the Neverend represents an extraordinary piece of magic, that changed the face of artificing when the technique was first utilised.
Item type
Tool
Rarity
Neverend Quills are incredibly popular among mage-folk and librarians at the Sandstep library in Tinobi. They're not overly expensive, about the price of 1000 ink bottles. They, therefore, make a reasonable investment if someone has the capital in hand to do so.
Weight
10 grams
Dimensions
30cm long
Raw materials & Components
Neverend Quills can be constructed from any feather, stick, or long, cylindrical instrument. The most important component is a gem with a large enough well of aether energy. These are mostly found in the floating mountains of Nalys, although there are large mining companies in the Enthar Empire that occasionally produce large enough gems.
