Aether cage

A relatively new, and still under construction development in mage-healing, is the process known as constructing an 'aether cage'. In most mage-healing, one simply connects to the aether and uses it to encourage the body's natural processes to act faster or better. This is why mage-healing cannot revert death or bring someone back whose body is too badly injured. Mage-healing requires there to be something remaining for the aether to work upon.   Where the aether cannot work hard enough to encourage a natural healing process, a single mage-healer has begun to experiment with constructing an 'aether cage'. This cage doesn't fix the problem, doesn't heal the body at all, but merely cuts off the problematic area from propagating fatally. This can, in some cases, give the patient time to attend surgery, or give them long enough to live to get their affairs in order.   Once an aether cage is constructed it must be kept up constantly by a mage-healer. It has been noted in some cases, that a build-up of sickness occurs behind the walls of the cage, and when the mage-healer has run out of aether connection, death was near-instantaneous for the patient when the barrier broke. As such, an aether cage is the last resort solution for the vast majority of cases.
Inventor(s)
The inventor, creator and, only current acting physician to use the technique is Magehealer Luanthos. A private-sector Healer in the King's County.
Access & Availability
Only one mage is currently constructing aether cages, although word of the technique is spreading to The Bastion. If aether cages begin to be implemented in the walls of The Bastion, it is likely to be a well-known, if still rare technique. Only mages with a powerful connection to the aether, and a large aether-well of their own, can maintain aether cages for any extended period of time.
