Standard Syrioc Calendar

Calendar Information

The standard calendar in Syrioc runs off a 400-day cycle. There are 10 months with 40 days in them. The calendar was created and implemented by the famous astronomer and philosopher, Marco di Pietro who lived and worked in the scientific city Rovigo Luno in Notaris.   The months of the standard calendar are named for the 10 primary planes that Syrioc has access to. During each of the months, the boundaries and connections between those planes and the Prime Material plane are muddled, causing interesting effects for Syrioc's inhabitants.   1. Materialis The first month is named for the material plane, as a result, no abnormal occurrences happen during the span of this month.   2. Feyrus The second 40 days of the year are dedicated to the Feywild. During this time, wanderers can find themselves entering fey forests and never returning. This month holds a special significance for fey creatures and they will sometimes find traces of their home plane in strange messages or locations. Awakened plant life is very common during this month and should be avoided.   3. Astrus This month is a tribute to the Astral Plane, where the Undertaker (the judger of souls), resides. During this month, the threat of death becomes more poignant for the sick and wounded.1 Gith native to the Astral Plane find that they do not age during this time, and can sometimes hear the roar of the waves of the astral sea.   4. Terra This month is for the elemental plane of earth. All throughout, earth elemental activity is increased, and small treasures of ore and gems are found much more easily in the mountains of Syrioc. Many mountain dwarves both love and fear Terra, as it holds the chance to bring untold riches or catastrophic destruction to underground structures and mines.   5. Ignis Halfway through the year brings an expected destruction to Syrioc's southern mainland. The giant volcano known as N'Gai spews much of the fire and magma out of the fire plane and on to the surrounding Tijuri Rainforest before hardening to igneous rock. The eruption of N'Gai is expected by the surrounding villages who build infrastructure to withstand the assault. Foolish adventurers and sightseers who stray too close to the month-long eruption may experience dangerous or even violent encounters with elementals and other creatures from the fire plane. Aditionally, the entire continent gets a few degrees warmer during this month, the southern climates becoming uncomfortably warm, and the northern ones experiencing an annual thaw.   6. Aquas To common folk living on Syrioc, the month of Aquas means nothing more than a surplus of water with the possibility of flooding during the apex of the month. However, for those who know and live on the sea, the month of Aquas is a dangerous and perilous time to sail. Stories of whirlpools swallowing ships whole mingle with tales of hundred foot waves and sea monsters. To any sane ship captain, Aquas is a month that is best spent inland.2   7. Caelis This month named for the plane of air is the last of the "Elemental Months". During the month, the sky maintains a vivid blue color. If there are clouds, they form in abnormal sheets or walls stretching for miles. There is never a calm day during this month, and wind speeds increase as the month progresses before finally peaking on the 20th day.3   8. Aethereus The eighth month references the ethereal plane and does not have a great effect on the lives of everyday people. The ingestion of specific mind-altering substances during this month can prompt unexpected travel into the border ethereal.   9. Umbra The 40 days of Umbra bring a bleak and sometimes terrifying reflection of the worst of Shadowfell, the dark reflection of the Mortal Plane. Sightings of ghosts and undead increase during this month, and rumors of hauntings plague locations with stronger connections to the shadow plane. During this month, necrotic and necromantic energy prove themselves especially powerful against mortals.4   10. Celestius The last month of the year pays homage to the celestial plane, where all the Starshapers—celebrated or not—reside. Many religious rituals are set within this month, and divine magic proves specifically effective.5 The effects of this month vary widely, as they depend not on the natural environment of the plane, but rather its inhabitants: The Starshapers themselves. A descended Starshaper walking the Material plane has the ability to utilize a greater amount of their Starshaper-Era power during this month, fully peaking on the 20th day; when almost all their celestial plane abilities can be realized on the Mortal Plane.

Celebrations and Holidays

The calendar holds a holiday on the 400th day of the year called Pietro's Apex, it is a festival to celebrate the end of the year and holds much religious significance in some places. While not practiced everywhere, Pietro's Apex is by far the most widely celebrated and recognized holiday on Syrioc.
