The Hara Stone is a precious gem mined in the mountains of Kaeeche, especially in the mining town Hehde. It is incredible rare and is seen as the height of luxury due to it's unusual appearance: unlike other minerals and metals it can be altered by using magnets on to create different looks. The whole trade of Hara stones are regulated by the Kaeechian government and blackmarket trading is harshly punished.

Properties

Material Characteristics

When mined, the Hara stone is fairly unimpressive with its dull, opaque green colour. What makes it special is how it changes during processing.   It is cut like other minerals into whatever shape happens to be trending at the moment and polished. This makes the stone a much more shining green colour, with the insides having a sort of thick foggy look. After this is where the processing of the Hara stones differ from other gemstones.   When subjected to magnets for a period of time the foggy inside of the gem turns clear with solid lines in different patterns. Putting the magnets in different constellations, as well as moving them around at certain times, creates different patterns inside the stone. After the pattern is set the stones are kept in secure storage for a month, after which it for some reason doesn't react to magnets anymore, thus setting the pattern.   Only a few licensed craftsmen are able to do this and the different patterns can vary a lot in price depending on how difficult they are to produce.

Geology & Geography

The mineral has been found in several places of the world, but only as singular small stones until the miners in Kaeeche found the first larger veins of the mineral a few hundred years ago.   It is mostly found deep down in mines, close to different kind of metals. Especially magnetic metals seem to attract Hara veins.
