Session 7: Callow Phantasm Report

General Summary

Abnormally, the coterie is called together on a Saturday per the request of John, who has them meet him at the church. Initially, he doesn't explain what's going on, believing it better that the group sees for themselves what's going on. As he leads them into the basement of the accompanying building, the neonates are horrified to find a young girl screaming her lungs out as she fights the restraints keeping her on the bed. The voice emanating from her is unbecoming of a girl her age- deep and guttural as it swears and curses, predicting the coming of hell unto the Earth.   John explains that his brother of the cloth, Father Joseph, has been trying in vain to exorcise what he believes to be a demon from poor Emily, but even with the power of their True Faith combined, they haven't made any progress all night long. Joseph reports that Emily used to only go into fits like this occasionally, but now she seems to be stuck in the devil's grasp full time- suggesting that it's only been getting worse.   Eleanor reflects on her light reading on the supernatural and recalls some information Adel shared with her about how these creatures work, eventually recalling that a name is usually required to perform a proper exorcism against a specter. She's not positive yet if the unseen creature she detected is a demon or not, but with this small lead, the group departs to try to uncover the name of the ghoul and finally put an end to this.   More or less, this is what the group learns;
Emily and her mother Janet moved into this house the first week of February. Soon after they moved here, Emily developed an imaginary friend she affectionately referred to as Sissy. Her mother made mention that the nickname seemed a bit childish, even for Emily, but Emmy insisted her friend named herself. This imaginary friend of Emily's seemed to be harmless and Emily would describe how Sissy would often draw with her, but otherwise, nothing seemed to be strange about this development.   Around the beginning of September, however, something does change about Emily. Likely the specter that begins possessing her starts to influence her actions. She starts growing irritable randomly, throwing tantrums, hurting herself, and ultimately her bad behavior climaxes when Emily tragically kills her own cat, Tutu. Janet immediately rushes Emily to get psychiatric help, but as the weeks progress and the medication doesn't seem to be affecting her strange mood swings, Janet finally reaches out in desperation to Father Joseph to see if he can do anything to help her.
  Back to present day, after discovering a drawing in Emily's backpack that makes mentions about old furniture and paintings in the attic, the group heads up there to see what they can find. Maki and Eleanor ultimately discover that one of these unfinished paintings is a Fetter and they belong to a deceased woman by the name of Cecelia Rosbrook- explaining the nickname "Sissy" as a simple childlike misinterpretation of "Cece."   Name in tow, the coterie heads back to the church to conduct an exorcism, of which transpires with very little complication. [Ignoring the plastic chair that flew at John.]   Specter dispelled, this Fetter was given to Dr. Blight in exchange for a vial of "Awake with Evening's Freshness" of which the remaining group agreed to gift to John knowing his haven is built into a public space. Dr. Blight also reveals that he believes some sort of catalyst event is causing wraiths to turn into specters in an unnaturally rapid way. He seems to have some theories as to why, but studying the fetters is helping him develop these theories.
