Session 17: The City of Seven Wonders Act 2: Start Report

General Summary

SATURDAY NIGHT [10.23.1999]

After suffering a great loss, the remaining members of the coterie spend a few days in mourning. Eleanor assumes that's what Juno is up to as he refuses to leave his room for a full evening, but after a second night of isolation passes by, she finally hassles him enough to open his door revealing what he's become. It seems that whatever Maeve shot him with has triggered some kind of bizarre mutation in the caitiff, giving him insectoid wings and large teeth that have sliced through his lips and cheeks... not to mention the long barbed tongue designed for wicking blood from wounds. He explains that the changes started happening as soon as he got home after their encounter with the witch and he's been too mortified by his own appearance to face the world. He fears he may end up in a similar state of mind to Clint, but thus far he doesn't feel too different. Not yet sure of what to do, Eleanor requests Juno accompany her to meet with Nick as soon as he resurfaces.   Around the same time, Adel finally gets a phone call from her missing sire. He tells her over the phone that he'd prefer to explain himself in person and she should bring her friends along. She agrees, and just as she goes to call Eleanor, she gets a call from her first- what a coincidence. They gather the vestiges of their posse together and meet Lumis & Nick at Castaways.   Tonight, Castaways is completely empty for all except the teenage bar attendant & Eris standing guard. Making their way up to the loft, they see Nick, Isaac, Lumis, & a mysterious newcomer all sitting around a table. Nick explains to the group that after they told him about this demon summoning they were trying to stop, he decided times were dire enough for him to reach out to the more extremist of Anarchist groups in hopes of getting some reinforcements. However, the gangrel bear pack he had reached out to had apparently already been indoctrinated by the sabbat and seemed to have only agreed to meet to try and kill Nick & his crew. It seems, though, that they had vastly overestimated their power and Nick was able to fell a number of them before their leader fled with whoever survived- except for one.   Osa is introduced to the coterie as a dogmatic gangrel who was sired and raised under a strict law of bravery and loyalty. She seems a little put off by the behaviors of the one she calls "Alpha," since to her it seems out of character for him to flee when faced with defeat. Seeing as how Nick was the one to fell her and her leader broke his very strict rules, she seems pretty keen on siding with this new pack. After Nick learns of the death of John and Killian, he suggests the coterie accept Osa amongst her ranks, expressing that now is not a time to reject any help you can get.   While there, Eleanor has Eris test Juno's blood and Eris concludes that Juno has also been infused with the blood of a demon, similar to Clint. This news does nothing but instill a sense of dread in Juno, now fearful he will also lose his mind.

SUNDAY NIGHT [10.24.1999]

The following night, Eleanor receives an ancient-looking letter in her mailbox. It's immediately obvious to her it's from Dr. Blight based off the wax seal on the front bearing the symbol of the Tremere. In this letter, he details the location of a Gaunt occupying the famous Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff and he requests she assembles the coterie and goes there at once to see if they can uncover one of the wraith's fetters. He states that he has already sent one of his underlings there to help them on this mission and he should be waiting for your arrival. Although she doesn't trust the good doctor, she knows the only way she's going to get any more insight is to gain favor with the old man, so she collects her friends and they pile into Juno's van to make the trip up the mountain.   On the way there, El spots a man on the freeway between cities but chooses to ignore him while the rest of her group sleeps in the back of the van.   Once at the top of the mountain, they make their way to the front of the hotel. A hostess and a security guard informs them that the hotel is currently only open to those interested in ghost tourism given the current condition of the hotel. She explains that an inspector is due to be by soon to see if there's anything they can do about the supposed "hauntings" in the building, but until then, guests are required to sign a waiver acknowledging that they likely won't have a peaceful night's rest if they stay in the hotel.   Warnings out of the way, they head inside and make their way to the room reserved for them by Dr. Blight. As they approach the door, they find the underling Dr. Blight described waiting outside the room door while speaking to a bellhop. It takes Adel no time at all to identify something otherworldly about the bellhop- a fact that Magnus seemed to have just been humoring until the bellhop leaves to return to the lobby. Introducing themselves and meeting Magnus' ghoul, Frances, the group decides on their sleeping arrangements and prepares for a long night in the Monte Vista hotel.
