Tevok's Home

The decorations are questionably cliche but it's home nevertheless.
Tamah about her home in Tarlaki

Purpose / Function

This house serves as the afterlife home for a small tarantula family consisting of Tinta (a highly regarded warioress), Tamah (a consort of The Huntress) and their husband Tevok. It's located in the northern part of the city of Tarlaki, ranged between other homes of the high society. The city itself is placed in the realm where most Arachnids go after their death, so it's constantly growing.   Most of the time the home's only resident is Tevok. He keeps everything in check and tidy since his wives' occupations require them to patrol the jungle surrounding the city (in Tinta's case) or serving at The Huntress' palace at the center of the realm (in Tamah's case). Whenever the ladies are around however, there are more Arachnids in this house than you would expect to fit in there. Parties are common and usually held over several days. Needless to say that Tevok enjoys the quieter times without anyone ruining his beloved carpet with vomit...

Alterations

Over the many years Tevok had spent in this house, not much had changed. The most drastic alteration was when he moved his little garden from the front of the house up on the flat roof. A change that was not welcomed at all but the growing population of Tarlaki forced the denizens to move closer together. So the garden had to make place for a newly built cobblestone street.   Besides that, the only thing which changed over time was the increasing number of decorations Tevok has gathered over his centuries in the afterlife.

Architecture

The architecture of Tevok's home is very simple despite the fancy neighborhood its built in. Big blocks of stone set ontop of each other form a simple cube-like building. No paint whatsoever covers the outside of the grey walls and the simple glass-less windows are covered with weatherproof curtains in case of heavy rainfall.   The high status of the family comes with another advantage in architecture: They don't need a door. Whoever dares to break and enter would risk the scorn of the city's religious and military elite. So far, nobody has tried to enter through the colorful curtain into the house if they weren't invited.   The house itself consists of 2 floors and a basement. The latter is not fancy at all, just a simple room with no own light source and stone-clad walls. The temperature down there is constant and always lower than the outside, that's why most of the household's perishable goods are stored there. A seperate room down there serves as the connection to the city's sewers.   The first floor serves as the main living area. The spacious single room combines the hearth with various lounging spots. You won't find any desks or chairs, it's common in Tarlaki to eat and relax while sitting on thick woven mats on the ground. That makes moving your furniture much easier than to carry a heavy couch from one corner to another...   The walls of theliving area are - other than the minimalistic outside - richly adorned with all kinds of knickknacks. A giant tapestry, artfully crafted from silk by one of Tamah's fellow consorts, covers the entirety of the south wall. It shows The Huntress' realm in all its glory, colorful and detailed. The other walls are covered in smaller tapestries and utensils needed for cooking/cleaning. It seems like most of the house's decorations are crammed into the first floor where they can be seen by any visitors. Strangely enough, you never find even a trace of dust on any of them.   The second floor houses the more private quarters, mainly the bedroom and one of the house altars. Much like the floor below it only consists of one room with various functions. The main purpose is sleep and meditation: a wide hammock spans across the half of the room. It's spacious enough to hold all three tarantulas and keeps them save from any ground-dwelling insects. On the other end of the room, right next to the wooden ladder leading to the first floor and the roof, is the house altar for The Huntress. As usual, it's clattered with all sorts of offerings. Tevok tends to use non-edible offerings like gemstones and flowers though to prevent the smell of rotting food.   As much as Tevok loves his collection of knickknacks downstairs, the flat roof is his favourite place to relax. He has arranged his own little rooftop garden. All sorts of vegetables and some selected flowers grow there in raised beds made of wood. During the daily rains in the jungle they can be protected by setting up a canopy. Alongside the beds Tevok has set up the house's second altar; this time for The Groundsman. Although he worships both The Huntress and The Groundsman the rooftop altar always gets a little bit of extra attention from him.

History

Of course, this house was once built on Straos by Tevok, Tinta and Tamah. But the time went by and eventually all three of them passed on to The Huntress' realm (which is basically the same as Straos with the exception of it's bigger size). Tarlaki was just as a prospering city as it was back on Straos and so the family decided to rebuilt their old house there. When it was built, the neighborhood was still right next to the city walls. However, as the centuries passed city grew in size rapidly (making it the biggest city in the realm) until the last members of the Tarlaki people went extinct on Straos. That's why Tevok's home is currently located in the middle of the Tarlaki.
