Abstainers

The Abstainers or, the Children of Abstinence are the followers of Casek el-Zia's Abstinence Manuscript, the primary text that forms the basis for their beliefs that Magic should not be used.   The Abstainers, dating back to the First Era of Magic, were founded with generally peaceful concepts and were encouraged by Casek el Zia to treat Magic users with respect and simply as "lost" and engage in conversation with Magic users with the goal of "conversion". Such conversations typically began focused on foundational arguments but often times turned to the comdemnation of the Magic users as most Abstainers believed that even using a little Magic would not only hurt the soul and damage ones chance of going to the Lands Without Death but could also have lasting impacts on the earth and those that Magic is used on. While through the centuries there has been no indication of such impacts on people (and it is impossible to know if use of Magic effects ones chances of going to the Lands Without Death) the lasting impacts on the earth are most evidently viewed through the lense of the destruction caused in seeking the raw materials to make Magic.   While not a religion in the sense that the Abstainers worship a diety (they may in fact worship dieties of other religions) they generally view their abstinence as their defining factor and most wear a patch of an open palm on their shirt symbolizing that their hands are open. Due to the bigotism often directed at Abstainers by the Magic majority early on and with the untimely death of Casek el-Zia in __________ the Abstainer movement found itself take a radicalized direction. Under the leadership of __________, The Children of Abstinence drove Magic users out of ____________ and claimed the city as the only Magic free city in the 5 Continents. In current times, Abstainers typically move around cities and through countrysides in groups which, not only provides protection but also emboldens Abstainers to harrass apparent Magic users (or anyone without the Abstainers Hand) when they believe they can overpower them. While the majority of such incidents of harrassment are inconsequential there have been reports of Magic users (and Abstainers) dying in larg planned attacks. As Magics commonality in the lower tiers of socienty has dwindled, both the number of attacks and the number of Abstainers has increased as the haves and have-nots become more diametrically opposed.
