Cavern Cleaner Basteo
The anatomy and morphology of the Basteo family has already been described in the parent article, and so this article will focus specifically on the unique and defining characteristics of the Cavern Cleaner breed.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Cavern Cleaner is a very pale blue, and nearly hairless. Its toes on all four paws are webbed slightly. It has a brown ridge along its back of keratin, and a pink frill around its neck to help it sense. Four branch-like antlers stem outwards from their heads, ending in points.
Ecology and Habitats
Cavern cleaners reside in underground lakes, where they usually will live near air pockets, so they can surface to breath and float to sleep. Their skin is thick to insulate from the frigid temperatures low underground, but because these temperatures are consistent and stable, cavern cleaners are free from seasonal worries.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Cavern cleaners are herbivores, which eat mostly moss and algae that they scrape from the cave walls with their antlers. This is not an especially robust diet, and so they spend almost all of their time awake searching for food, but are almost perpetually hungry, as if they ate too much, they would risk running out of their food source.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have amazing night vision, which they use to distinguish moss and cave plants growing on the walls of underground lakes. Their hearing is terrible, though, and the frill around their neck is the only way they can sense creatures approaching from behind.
