Golgari Swarm

"A guild of plant zombies, fascinating!" -- Dr. Carson Beckett

The Golgari Swarm is the embodiment and amalgamation of life and death. The guild believes that life and death are both natural and are essential to, and as essential as, one another, with life and death being natural elements of a cycle with no intermediary break. Growth, and thus power, however slowly but ruthlessly and inevitably, are key to the Swarm, As a consequence of their necromantic magic, the Golgari are the largest Nyxian guild.   The Golgari Swarm is known to refer to, and revere, its parun, the legendary necromancer Svogthir, as the "god-zombie".

Structure

The Swarm has three core groups that control the day to day tasks and lead the dredges.
  • The Druidic Cast: These swarm members have merged themselves with various plant life, they are the rot farmers of the guild and begin the necromancy process used to grow the guild roster.

  • The Shamanic Cast: These powerful members are the ones who restore bodies for the druids to work their magic on.

  • The Harvesters: These are some of the dredges that were zombified, these members retain enough intellect to follow the orders given and often they used as gravediggers and grave-robbers.

Public Agenda

The Swarm is guild taking of those who died, regardless of the cause. Often they use their crafts to restore dead bodies to usable conditions for various tasks.

Territories

Svogthos is the Guildhall dimension of the Golgari. The arched subterranean structure is elaborately decorated and gilded, a sign that it used to be a cathedral of the Orzhov Syndicate. Denizens of Above would whisper of how the cathedral was beautiful, once. Its curved arches and stony towers glistened with obsidian and silver in days gone by. But the wear of centuries left it cold and damp, heavy with the smell of staleness and soil. Svogthos is a semi-living structure in which the detached, severed head of Svogthir, is housed and is claimed to move as the center of Golgari territory shifts. The former cathedral stands at the center of Korozda, the Maze of Decay, an immense circular maze of fungal hedgerows and overgrown, moss-encrusted ruins.

"Depending on your point of view, the seal represents a proud guardian of the natural cycle or one who has sold her soul to darkness for eternal life."
