The system has become the home base of both the Imperial Exploration Corps and the independent scouts operating in the sector. The system is now something of a boom town, with a lot of services and trade growing up around the continuing exploration into the unknown regions. The planet is largely agriculture and some minor mining operations. The main draw is the trade that is going on with the minor finds brought back by scouts and the fact that the Imperial Exploration Corps and the Bureau of Colonization have set up shop on Canta. Basically, Canta has become the clearing house for new systems added to the Kanzi Sector. When a system is discovered, it is registered with the Imperial Exploration Corps as a find for the registering scout. Once further exploration and classification has been completed, the scout is paid out, and the system is transferred to the Bureau of Colonization. Bids are then taken from interested groups and corporations. The highest bid wins and administration of the new system is transferred to the new owners. Currently, the only bids being accepted are those submitted by corporations and colonization bids where an Imperial Governor is to be installed.   The rest of the planet is less well developed than Canta City itself, having been a minor colony world before the imperialistic bureaucracies of the Galactic Empire moved in and took over Canta City. The planet's economy is largely built around cattle and Bantha herding. Small scale prospectors seek the high grade gems and placer deposits of precious metals that can be found in the streams associated with the rugged mountainous terrain in the interiors of Cantha's large continents. Outside of Canta City, the planet does remain a frontier colony, and like many such worlds, the population is a rougher sort than those accustomed to the more genteel worlds of the Kanzi Sector might expect. Justice often comes at the end of a gun, and outlaws, bandits, cattle rustlers and other ne'er do wells are quite common. The population of this world is almost entirely human, with the occasional non-human rancher or prospector. Canta City has become a more cosmopolitan location. A rather sizable Shou-Town has sprung up along one edge of Canta City, though it still lacks much of the ancient cultural iconography one expects from Shou-Towns in more civilized locations. Laundries, mahjohng parlors, restaurants, opium dens, inns, whore houses, saloons, dentists and medical practitioners make up most of the businesses in the Canta Shou-Town, though there are the occasional techs and traders. One area that the Shou seem to dominate is the ivory and jade trade. Bantha Ivory is quite common on Canta, and the prospectors often find large pieces of Jade. Recently a Shou expedition has discovered the source of some of the finest jades and a mine has been opened up. The Xin Yùshao mining company owns the mine, and is also still seeking other sources of Jade as many varieties have been found. The current mine produces violet jade, but the Shou seem especially interested in finding the source of the truly exceptional green jade that is ocassionaly traded to them in town.   The Empire is quite active in the system, primarily in the form of the Imperial Exploration Corps, whose scout ships are constantly coming and going from the system. The Imperial Customs Service also has a Tenloss Orbital Customs Platform in place in orbit around Canta. The Imperial Navy homebases another six ship squadron of IPV-H patrol ships at the starport on Canta for the Western Kanzi Sector Patrol and maintains a six ship squadron of IPV-1 patrol ships for system security. The Imperial Governor, Tannis Bringbey, has one Imperial Garrison base staffed by Compnor and ISB personnel, a regiment of stormtroopers and all planetary police forces under his direct command in order to maintain order. Most of the planet is quite peaceful, but the boom town quality that Canta City has acquired has led to some problems with the independent, frontier types who have come to call the city home. The planet is defended by a single Golan-1 defense station in orbit above Canta City.
