Shields

Physical Shields

Thick plated walls designed to absorb damage intended for the wielder, physical shields are one of the most commonly used combat tactics throughout the galaxy. Most physical shields are made out of one metal or another due to natural resilient properties, however some unique designs and material combinations lie throughout the galaxy.

Light Shield

One of the simplest designs in shield engineering, light shields attach to the forearm and are the descendants of buckler type shielding. Often used by those who still require high mobility, this shielding is effective at deflecting blaster shots - though intensive fire can often lead to one's arm quickly tiring.

Light Shield (Bone):

Not all civilizations have ready access to mineral deposits for metal production, many of them came up with alternative materials to protect themselves with - the most common being thick bone from the skeletons of large creature. Using scales, bone shards, and other biological components is a tradition passed on in many of the more rural areas. This specific type of shield is more for deterring rather than direct protection, as many bone fragments jut out from the front, a fearsome sight and effective tactic against charging enemies.

Medium Shield

Larger than their forearm companions, medium shields are often large enough to cover a decent-sized portion of the body. While offering more protection, the effort required to maintain its use during combat can prove too much for some. Some governmental agencies use this type of shield as part of their operational gear: riot shields for law enforcement, thermal shields for fire rescue, etc.
Cost: 150 Creds Weight: 18 Lbs. AC: +2 Properties: Required Strength 13

Medium Shield (Crystadium)

Forged with a unique crystalline lattice weaved througout its core, this type of shield is able to dampen the effects of many different attack types - leaving them less effective than intended. This does come at a cost however, as the structure of the lattice can shift due to energy intake making it unwieldy if too much is absorbed at once.
Cost: 900 Creds Weight: 18 Lbs. AC: +2 Properties: Absorptive 1, Imbalanced, Required Strength 13

Heavy Shield

Made with the intent of full-body protection, these massive pieces often render most conventional attacks pointless; even an attack at point-blank with a thermal detonator wouldn't make much of a dent. One major penalty, however, is the fact that you'll be extremely visible wherever you are as long as you're carrying it around.
Cost: 500 Creds Weight: 36 Lbs. AC: +3 Properties: Obtrusive, Required Strength 15

Heavy Shield (Quadanium)

This ingenious design was conceived by Ugnaught fighters in order to fight against Trandoshan slavers. Built with cycling chambers embedded in their cores, these shields are able to absorb incoming attacks and release it back at the assailant when retaliating.
Cost: 2,000 Creds Weight: 36 Lbs. AC: +3 Properties: Charging 1, Cumbersome, Obtrusive, Require Strength 15

Energy Shields

Shields mainly comprised of energy fields, these tech pieces are often much lighter to wield than shields made of physical materials. While useful for lightening a person's load, they can be a bit more unpredictable in defense than physical shields.

Light Shield Generator

This generator attaches to an individual's forearm and produces a thin layer of protective energy that envelops the user. The energy field dampens the impact of incoming attacks, but is too thin to completely stop most attacks.
Cost: 125 Creds Weight: 2 AC: +1 Properties: None

Medium Shield Generator

A handheld metallic orb, this generator attaches to an emitter on the back of the hand that creates a circular static field; this field is able to prevent most attacks from penetrating its perimeter. While more durable due to field consolidation, repeated attacks in the same are can create energy fluctuations causing gaps in the protective barrier.
Cost: 375 Weight: 6 AC: +2 Properties: None

Heavy Shield Generator

This generator uses a lightweight metallic frame lined with emitters to strengthen the energy field several magnitudes higher than a medium shield generator. Often built in a t-shape to maximize field coverage, these bad boys can take several simultaneous attacks without power fluctuation at all.
Cost: 1,250 Creds Weight: 12 AC: +3 Properties: None
