Ki Boost

Tier 1 Technique (Easy(d) difficulty)

"Behold, the strength of a thousand armies!"
— General Drakewing Drogson, before single-handedly decimating an entire army.
Ki is all about manipulating life energy, so it makes sense that one would try to use this to enhance their own natural strength. This technique allows the user to boost a certain attribute of a target (which can be themselves) by channeling their energy into them. There are a variety of ways this effect can occur, as listed below, but it should be noted that these boosts are temporary, and only last until the end of the user's next turn in combat. In addition, when combining effects, the difficulty of them is combined, and some effects cannot be combined.
  • Ki-kara (d): Boosting a target's physical attack strength, this technique adds damage to the target's unarmed combat checks equal to the user's ranks in Knowledge. This also gives unarmed combat checks a critical rating of 3. This can be combined with any other effect, except for Ki-mando.
  •
  • Ki-buru: (dd): This technique boosts the target's general ability to inflict damage, by all means. While attacking under the effect of this, the base damage of any attack is doubled. This may be combined with any other effect, unless otherwise stated.
  •
  • Ki-kudo (dd): This technique fills the target with vigor, increasing their speed. While under the effect of this technique, the target can always perform a second maneuver during combat without spending strain (although they may still only perform two maneuvers a turn), they can ignore the effects of difficult terrain, and cannot be immobilized. This can be combined with any other effect, except for Ki-mando.
  •
  • Ki-pawai (dd): This technique enhances all of a target's physical attributes at once, adding d to their Agility, Brawn, and Presence checks. This can be combined with any other effect, except for Ki-mando.
  •
  • Ki-mando (dd): This technique boosts a target's mental attributes, adding d to their Cunning, Intellect, and Willpower checks. This can be combined with any other effect, except for Ki-pawai.

Gestures & Ritual
Ki Boost is commonly used by focusing on the effect desired, shouting the name of the technique, as well as the suffixes of the additional effects. For example, combining Ki-pawai with Ki-kudo would require shouting "Ki-kudo-pawai!" The user must place at least one arm on their target, unless that target is themselves. The actual requirements involve a lot less shouting than is typically done by users on a common basis.

Applied Restriction
Ki Boost needs at least one arm free to be used on others, and the vocalization, while often done over-dramatically, is not optional. If the user's hands are both incapacitated, or the user cannot speak, they cannot use this technique.

Rather interesting, overall. But, if this is "Tier 1" difficulty, what is the ultimate Tier that can be achieved?

Also, is the Ki energy a form of resource? Something that can be extracted, harvested and refined for conventional use? Like diesel or crude oil?

Thank you for reading! Ki energy is life energy in this world, and the highest tier spell I have in the works is tier 4.

Even though I'm not adept in tabletop games, I admire how organized it looks. Is this for a game you're GMing?

Why yes, yes it is. I'll make the announcement for sign-ups once I have the world fully built.

This is really cool! In fact, I had to double check that this wasn't an official work from somewhere!   At a glance, it looks like Ki-mando should specify that it doesn't mix with Kara and Kudo as well, just because you did specify on both Mando and Pawaii.   I don't know the specifics of Genesys, but this looks like a fairly potent spell if it can be doubled up and used for big attacks. I get the feeling of a real Battle Mage out of this, which I feel is what you were aiming for!   I do have to question if there is an upgraded version of this spell? An "Ultra" boost or similar? It doesn't seem to be the sort of spell that allows you to "Decimate an entire army", and I feel like Ki is likely a limited resource.   Thanks for sharing this neat article!

Thank you for reading! I will take your suggestions into consideration, and the feeling I was going for was more of a Ki warrior from Dragonball, but hey, both work!

Question, could you apply a ki boost to a Item for example apply it too a bullet being shot from a gun? OR apply it too a arrow being let loose from the String? Would it benefit the same-way?

Not exactly. Ki boost only works on living people, not items, so I don't think it'd work on items or ammo. Thanks for reading, though!
