The Lowway Trillage

When we left the train-car, I was hit by the smells of the place: rot, disease, shit and piss and blood, sulfur, and above all, dwarven greed. The great disposable halls of the tunnel masters that carved the reliefs into the wall and cut the pillars to size sat like stone castles overlooking the ruin and rot of the goblin and orc camps hastily constructed out of sheet metal and grey rock, kept apart by legions of mercenaries covered in glittering armor.   The crooked dwarf scuttled over next to me and asked, with his hands clasped in front of him, what I thought of the brilliant machinations of the Pelgar Group.   It took all of my strength not to answer him with my sword.   --10th of Iron, Year 22

Government

The trillage is run by the Lowway Construction Branch of The Pelgar Group, which is responsible for planning construction and upkeep of The Great Lowway, which is considered divine by many in iron dwarf society. It has been under construction for nearly two hundred years, fist planned by the king of the dwarves.   The trillage is the settlement of workers and explosive goblins at the head of the lowway, constantly shifting further down the tunnel every five days. It is organized into ten distinct parts, starting from the very begging of the trillage and ending at the lowways face:
  • Tunnel Master's Village- The large metal structures that serve as the camp of the lowway architects and the tunnel masters. Fully supplied with shops and inns. It is home to most of the Pelgar Group's employees and service workers, who either live or commute to the Master's Village daily.

  • Dig Team Shifts- Shifts worked by the dig teams on a five day (one Stadupglod week) rotation.
Shift 1- The most hated shift of the dig teams. Consists of removing last week's goblin town and kol shacks, then gathering the raw material and resources left behind by the orc ballistics teams.   Shift 2- Consists of building tunnel infrastructure and foundations. This is the most labor intensive shift, as much has to be built in only five days, and any delays cost the entire operation gold.   Shift 3- Consists of moving the tunnel master's village down the lowway as the operation moves forward.
  • Line 3- A division of Line Keepers, a branch of the personal army of the Pelgar group, tasked with keeping the fodder goblins away from the dig teams.

  • Kol Shacks- Where kidnapped goblins are sent to consume Kol and become fodder goblins. Given goblin tokens (gt) equal to the amount of kol they consume each day.

  • Goblin Town- Where fodder goblins live and breed before being sent by line guards to the goblin range at the end of the trillage. Contains the goblin brothels where kidnapped female goblins are forced to accept goblin tokens in exchange for sex. They are usually addicted to Aether before being sent to the brothels and forbidden from kol as explosive accidents happen more frequently when both partners are explosive. Birth frequently happens in the streets and the young are collected by Orc "peacekeepers", affectionately called "goblin mashers", who patrol the streets and brothels and dropped off at the kol shacks to start their short lives as fodder goblins. Food that consists primarily of dead goblins that have been pureed and lightly cooked is delivered and automatically dropped into troughs on the streets daily.

  • Line 2- A division of live keepers tasked with keeping the orcs and goblins separate.

  • Orc Camps- Where the orc trebuchet teams sleep, eat, and organize. Contains at least two divisions of line keepers to control the teams of orcs who often break out into fights and riots.

  • Line 1- A division of line keepers tasked with controlling the trebuchet teams as they move from the camps to the team line. Considered the second most challenging shift among the line keepers.
  • Trebuchet Team Line- Where the tems of orc fire fodder goblins wrapped in bleaska to blast away huge chunks of rock from the lowway's face. Accidental explosions and accidents are common. Contains a division of line keepers tasked with controlling the trebuchet teams as they work. Often called "Line 0", it is the most challenging shift to work. Death and injury are common among the line guard stationed here.
  • Goblin Range- The explosion marked wasteland full of broken rock and goblin body-parts that stretches from the trebuchet team line to the lowway's face, 300 years away.

History

Before Death was released, the lowway trillage was the place where the great tunnel masters worked. They could remove huge chunks of stone in perfect squares by just touching the rock in the right places, called "stonesense", but when Death was connected to the material realm, the stonesense was lost to all the dwarves.   The trillage turned into a place of research into explosive materials that were capable of blasting apart the incredibly strong grey stone of The Planet Dwan. Discovered the process for making bleaska after twenty years of research, then a few years later discovered the process to make fodder goblins.   At first the Pelgar Group hired dwarves, halflings, orcs, and elves to work the trebuchets that fired bleaska at the walls and tried to keep the knowledge and use of kol as secret as possible. This went on for many years until a member of the Pure Iron Movement snuck a large amount of kol out of the Pelgar Group in an attempt to addict as many goblins in The City of Stadupglod as possible, then loose them on the other unsuspecting pillar races. This plan was foiled by The Quenmithal, but the knowledge of kol was out.   Soon, many goblins became addicted to it anyway, but were quickly removed from the city be the Quenmithal and The Stoneguard Legion. The Plegar Group saw a new explosive resource just sitting in the lowway and in Down Town, and quickly moved to take advantage of the situation. Thus, the goblin range was born.

Architecture

Most of the building are of shoddy construction, designed to last only a few rotations before new materials must be used. The tunnel master's village however, is made to be easily disassembled and reassembled for easy reconstruction. They are made of high quality steel and designed to last for many years.

Geography

The surrounding stone is usually the tough grey stone, but other minerals can be found as the tunnel slowly moves forward every week.
