He had a tattoo of the symbol of the Dwan Empire over his right eye and he glared at me through a bushy grey beard. His hand went to the dagger on his belt but I drew my sword faster. I held the keen edge of the blade against his throat and I could see the rage inside him explode like a star, a supernova of hate spreading out along his body like the rising color of his skin. I asked him if he wanted to die today.
He didn't answer.

The Khan is the public face of the organization that takes orders directly from the Mothers

Skon, the spies of the PIM. There are two types:

• Vetnik- The councilors. They are the only ones other than the Khan to speak with the Mother's directly and receive the orders for the rest of the brothers and sisters of iron. There are only ever two Vetnik working within the PIM at a time, and they are replaced often

• Byka- The bookkeepers. They collect information not only from The City of Stadupglod but also from within the organization itself, always on the lookout for disloyalty or double agents among the other ranks.

Katan, or Authority. In charge of the section of men given to him by the Khan, called Rypka. A Katan usually owns a business or is a high ranking member of a guild as an alibi.
Rypka, or Warrior. Main strike force of the PIM. Given special criminal assinments to carry out by their Katan. Rypka usually pose as legitimate employees working in their Katan's business or guild. Also partially responsible for recruiting new members.
Sinyak, or Enforcer. Given authority over Futs and are sent to protect business that the PIM controls. Acts as security detail for the organization.
Fut, or Associate. Not yet a full member of the organization but have paid the dues and are aspiring for a place. Usually used as errand boys by the Sinya, but sometimes a Katan will request additional bodies for a mission.
