The Great Lowway

We boarded the train-car that would take us down the entire length of it and sat down on small seats made of steel that creaked when I put my weight on them. The dwarf turned around, his seat squealing, and asked if I had ever seen the trillage at the end of the lowway.   I shook my head.   He snickered, rippling the gold cloak he was wearing, and said that it would change my views on dwarven ingenuity in these trying times. And to his credit, he was right. It changed my views completely.   --10th of Iron, Year 22

Purpose / Function

Started just before death as a project ordered by the king of the dwarves in order to better connect Stadupglod with the capital of Dwan. Death was released upon the material realm and Stadupglod lost contact with the capital, but Tordis decided that the project must continue.

Architecture

Stretching 50 miles through the crust of The Planet Dwan from The City of Stadupglod and ending at the Lowway Trillage, the Great Lowway is 300 yards tall and wide. Hewn from the grey stone of the planet, the walls have been decorated in detailed reliefs depicting great moments in dwarven history. Every fifty yards there is a pillar from the floor to the ceiling, at first made from black-iron, but after death was released, carved from simple grey stone. There is a train track running through the center that carries goods and people to the Lowway Trillage daily. Those who cannot afford a ticket must walk.

History

Started as a project ordered by the king of the dwarves, Whilid, Son of Iron, in order to better connect Stadupglod with the capital of Dwan. That was nearly two-hundred years ago.   After Death was released, the dwarves frantically researched ways of creating enough force to crack grey stone. They discovered Blaeska, which is more than capable of blasting apart the tough material.   Just a few years later, they discovered that the residue that formed on the insides of the iron cauldrons could be ingested to induce stimulant-like effects, and when given to goblins, has the added effects of making them piezoelectricly explosive. The Pelgar group decided that the best way to conserve resources and improve efficiency would to come up with a systematic process to create not just bleaska, but also fodder goblins for use in excavating the lowway.
