Orcs

I had a dream I was back in the immortal army of my kin, my body full of the infinite power of Fire, drinking combat and war up like a fine draught.   Then I awoke, and the fire was gone. All that was left was that faint smoldering that sits like a stomach ache inside every orc these days, a brand of lost power scorched into our souls that not even Death can smother. I packed up camp in silence. Today would be a day of quiet contemplation.   --32nd of Iron, Year 25

Civilization and Culture

History

Orcs are seen as little more than a barbaric slave race whose only purpose is to be exploited and abused by the other races of The City of Stadupglod. Most of them worship Mor’grath, the Demon Prince of war and blood, whom they believe is fighting an eternal battle with the Thanixian on the surface. Practitioners of this Cult are known as Nakatras, and any symbols, rites, or texts have been labeled as heretical, and dangerous by the Council. The largest amount of Nakatras are Gorka Orcs as many Kro’Uthu are wise enough to see past religion, or to realize that worshipping a Demon could have ill effects. Further Still Nakrata Orcs are only common outside of the city, as not even a Gorka Berserker can stand against a Quenmithal agent who has been sent to eliminate heresy. The orcs are split into two subraces: Kro’uthu and Gorka.   Kro’uthu- The ex-immortals. They have brown, or grey skin, and grow long black greasy hair which you will often see them form into braids, or dreads. They are shorter, smarter, and fewer in number than the Gorka orcs. And may serve as guard captains, generals, and the owners of mercenary companies as even the council members can’t deny their fighting ability. Very few are allowed to work and live freely in the city, with most being owned by wealthy property holders with something to protect. Most live outside the city, either in the employ of the dwarven Pelgar Group, the great mining and finance company, working on the Great Lowway Project as ballista captains, or in the Oldroads leading a group of Gorka as a warboss. Frequently this warboss status is achieved through acting as a quasi religious leader for the group of Gorka, using percieved piety as a way to control their less intelligent kin.   Gorka- The mortal-born orcs, little more than brutes and savages. They are taller and more hulking than the Kro’uthu, with green skin and black eyes, and many of them don't seem to grow hair. They can go into a berserker state that increases their combat prowess at the cost of what remains of their intelligence. Berserking gorka orcs are a serious threat to the infrastructure of the city, as one berserker can set off other gorka in the area, causing a chain reaction of rage and destruction. Most are slaves of the Pelgar Group, working in ballista teams to blast away the rock with fodder goblins wrapped in dwarven explosive.
