Dragon

Dragons are a rare sentient species, found in the mountains all over Zang-Thara. They live a secluded lifestyle far away from most societies. Most dragons are very magically affine, often use separation magic to create flammable gases and heat magic to breathe fire. Older dragons may use movement magic to fly even though their wings might not be strobg enough anymore.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These four-legged and winged lizard-like creatures are very powerful and large, can grow to a size of roughly five meters shoulder-height, about thirty meters head to tail. With their large wings they are able to fly to great heights and relatively fast velocities. Their scales are strong and protect them from most attacks of any enemies. Theair heads feature multiple horns and their feet and hands have sharp claws which they can also use for fine motions.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragons usually eat hunted animals, but they stay away from any other sapient species unless they are in a very dire need of food. Sometimes they can also settle for fruits, but since they don't practice agriculture, they usually don't eat any.

Biological Cycle

Dragons lay eggs, after a relatively short pregnancy they have to brood these eggs for multiple years, which they protect with all their life. Since they lay eggs only up to three times in their life, in a batch of up to three, their children are very precious to them. After hatching the hatchlings are not considered adult until they are 100 years old. Dragons can live up to a thousand years, becoming weaker with age after about two thirds of that time.

Behaviour

Other species are more often than not hostile towards dragons, their bodies, often their scales and sharp claws, are interesting for crafting. This is one of the reasons dragons live a secluded lifestyle in the mountains and only come down to hunt for food. Rarely they can become straight up evil and cause harm to any creature nearby, but usually they stay as far away from other species as possible.
