Rhodes
Rhodes is one of the three cities of the The Trimet.
Prior to the Splintering, Rhodes was a relatively unknown hamlet. It was in a remote portion of the Dagger Hills, and few if any caravans made the journey for fear of Orcs. Magistrate Naomi led the village during the Splintering. She had been known as ambitious before... a woman whose home did not live up to her desires, and the Splintering gave her the chance to turn Rhodes into so much more.
The city has outgrown itself dozens of times over since the Splintering. There is almost nowhere you can go that isn't enduring some form of rapid construction and growth.
Geography
Set within the Iron Hills, the landscape around Rhodes is rugged and difficult.
Localized Phenomena
The most notable detail about Rhodes are its Reaches. It has two Reaches that have been historically stable both in activation and destination.
Golgorth
The Reach to Golgorth used to be a home. The walls are gone and only a few stone columns remain, but all-told the Reach is about 35 feet across. Every hour, it projects those within its area to a specific location in Golgorth. What makes this Reach significant is that the journey through the Pael is almost non-existent, making it one of the safest Reaches that can be traveled. Those who use it experience a short blur of the Pael, and then find themselves in Golgorth almost immediately upon stepping onto the Reach in Rhodes. This Reach is manned at all times by agents of Mayor Naomi Sand, who help make sure people know the schedule of when it will transport others, and of course, to collect a small toll.Dretheric
The Reach to Dretheric is actually the contents of a cauldron of think bubbling green liquid that never seems to deplete or diminish (affectionately called The Slime). It only takes a swallow to transport a person into the Pael on the path to Dretheric. For travelers to remain together, they must all have a sip that has been ladled out of the same serving. The journey to Dretheric is roughly half an hour (and tends to be a bit more disturbing than most in the Pael), but arrival in Dretheric appears to be less than 10 minutes after sipping the Reach.Other Reaches
Although both of the above Reaches are maintained by the local government, Rhodes has a slew of other Reaches in operation that can lead to locations all over Altan'ruhl, most of which are privatized.
