Chronos Orc Clan

The northern winds guide a weary traveler deep into the forest. Should their heart be free of malice, the stone walls they happen upon may open to reveal a warmth uncharacteristic of this place. And should this traveler walk free after eating and drinking their fill of the mysterious wealth offered during their stay, may the memory of the stone walls fade as easily as the inevitable passage of time.

Structure

Chieftain

The Chieftain is the primary leader of the clan. They make and dispute laws, govern the military body by proxy, and carry out judicial processes.

First Lieutenant

Carries out the chieftain's orders for the military. Presides over the subordinate lieutenants and delegates duties as such.

Subordinate Lieutenants

A group of six that answers to the First Lieutenant. Trains the military initiates, and carries out arrests and executions.

Head Cleric

Presides over the medicinal sect of the tribe. Trained in all forms of healing, magical and otherwise.

Eyes of Gruumsh

Religious sect. Very little political influence, though they do bless certain rites as well as carry out sacrifices before battle.

Forgemaster

Presides over the creation of weapons. Secrets passed down through mentoring and are not known to anyone else.

Military Officers

General military. Made up of new initiates carrying out their required service, and veterans who stayed decided to stay.

Commonfolk

Merchants, artisans, etc.

Public Agenda

To be self-sufficient as well as defend their territory from any who might encroach upon it.

Assets

A sizable encampment, small military force, high-quality weaponry, high-quality medical knowledge. Enough wealth to occasionally trade with other clans, but mostly self-sufficient

History

Settled originally in Year 34 by wandering orcs who had lost track of their clan.   Formed a hierarchical political system by Year 41, with the death of the original chieftain marking the development of a succession system.   Developed a metalworking and hunting industry by year 53.   In Year 59, a disease swept through the settlement, increasing the need for experienced clerics and healers. The medicine industry gained increased reverence for their perseverance and success. After the plague receded, the settlement saw fledgling healers arriving to request training from the foremost clerics that already lived there.   The clan had reached its current size by year 78, with roads to the South and West their primary means of transport and trade.   In year 89, a new chief was elected and quickly established a violent dictatorship. Most protesters were banished or executed publicly.   In year 99, the chief died under mysterious circumstances and was quickly succeeded by his daughter, who instituted reform and re-opened relations with other tribes and settlements.

Demography and Population

The Chronos Tribe is comprised of the main settlement as well as a large radius of land that surrounds it.

Territories

The clan has stayed on the same land that the Chronos tribe was originally founded on. They consider it their property and are prepared to defend it from would-be invaders.

Military

The military is strong but tightly-packed, with training provided to every orc born within the settlement. Residents must complete three years of required service, starting at age 12. There are four divisions within the military, with their own hierarchies: Melee specialists (where all initiates are placed unless exceptional skill with ranged weapons is shown), Archers, Ballistics, and Clerics. The military's duties are primarily comprised of guarding the walls of the main settlement as well as patrolling the surrounding area.

Religion

The Eyes of Gruumsh make up the primary religious organization within the settlement. However, orcs may choose to worship or not in their day-to-day lives. Gruumsh is celebrated through sacrifices before battle or certain rites, though many of the residents of the Chronos tribe disagree with the more extremist doctrines.

Foreign Relations

The clan trades with neighboring villages, including an orc clan to the West and the greater part of civilization to the South.

Agriculture & Industry

Agriculture is hard to come by in the North, but the clan makes do with what they have. Their main export is metal, having a wealth of access due to its proximity to a mountain. They also export meat and hide, housing talented hunters that bring back such products from their journeys.

Education

Every orc must be enrolled in school from age 4 through 12, at which point their military service begins. The school system involves both survival skills for the harsh winter climate as well as basic intellectual disciplines like history and mathematics. If, after service in the military is completed, an orc wishes to pursue a higher education, mentors are available for training in various crafts.
