Lacey Oakheart is the newly gazetted captain of the 2nd Dakshore Battalion of the Marinian Army.
Following the death of her husband at the siege of Fort Dakshore, she is selected as the only person who knows the role well enough to take over.
She leads the remnants of the battalion across the Episay Ocean to the colony of Marfust in New Aeven.
Ferfust is a colony clinging to the newly discovered continent, unwanted by the natives and fiercely contested. Oakheart has taken her new company out of the frying pan and into the fire.
