Sha-Kar

“Native to the Labora Desert these creatures are astonishingly efficient hunters. I once saw a group of twenty mounted men shredded in meat moments by a Lablradon.”   -From the field journal of Sir Doramor Finch

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hexapedal carnivores with a thick armor like carapace. They have several specialized body parts.   A Sha-kars front and back pair of limbs are used for movement, being larger and stronger then their mid limb pair. While their mid limbs are used to shred their prey. Each leg is made up of three segments. The movement legs end in thick hoof like structures that make traversing the sand easy. However the mid limbs end in razor sharp claws made of bone that can grow up to a foot long.
She-kar have three eye stalks that rise from the center of its body that allow it to see its entire surrounding.
Perhaps the most disturbing feature of Sha-kar is its mouth. Located on the underside of just body, a elongated oval lines with four rows of razor sharp teeth and a central grasping tounge like appendage.

Genetics and Reproduction

Sha-kar are known to be found in mating triplets, needing the genetic material of three individuals to creat a clutch of eggs. This clutch is buried more then a meter beneath the sand, then one of the Sha-kar stays with them until they begin to hatch. A single clutch of eggs may spawn hundreds of Sha-kar though only a handful will survive their first few days.

Growth Rate & Stages

Sha-kar live roughly 30 years, going through several distinct stages of life.
Starting with the worst week of life,  they are fragile as their carapace is hardening. Typically the newly hatched Sha-kar will disperse very quickly, however there have been instances of them slaughtering there clutch mates.
After the first week their carapace is hardened and they are about the size of an apple, though they are growing rapidly. For the next few mounts they will be honing their claws to fine points and beginning to bury themselves to hunt.
After their first year of life they are fully grown and the size of a person. They have perfected their hunting techniques and have claimed their own territory.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Having eye stalks that can look in every direction gives Sha-kar 360 degree vision. It is also believed that Sha-kar have some sort of organ that allow them to sense vibrations in the ground while they are buried beneath the sand.
