Magic
It is hard to find a part of the world untouched by magic in one form or another. Everything from agriculture to water treatment has been enhanced or changed by magic. This book will give you an overview of magic and it’s systems for both witchcraft and wizardry.
Magic is the term for all effects and phenomenon that are created though use of Aether or Aurora, or cannot be explained using physical sciences. Magic can be invoked though Wizardry and Witchcraft using Aether and Aurora respectfully. There are also magical laws that are repeatable phenomenon, the Binding is an example of one of the magical laws.
Invoking and classification of Magic
When a magician wishes to invoke magic they must channel either Aurora or Aether though the correct catalyst or collection of catalysts. The reaction is what causes the magic. These reactions are classified by amount of Aurora or Ather and the resulting affects. Classification by amount of Aether or Aurora is the spell's level. Lower amounts will have a lower level. When classified by the affects you will get they type of the spell. The number and names of types is debated to this day.
History of Magic
The early history of magic is dominated by the desire to understand the Binding. Witchcraft was first discovered when the leylines shifted revealing the Aurora they emit. The first recognized witch according to the witching community was Nona Coghill. Her teachings are still used as the foundation of witchcraft to this day. Wizardry was discovered shortly afterwards however it took longer to standardize due to the toxic nature of Aether. Wizards all point to Ludwig Hassler as the first true wizard. He is roughly Nora's equivalent in the wizarding community. Both of these scholars are still remembered to this day thanks to their many writings.
After the first books on magic were published and the first academies for magical study. These academes standardized the methods to create and control magic. As this standardization happened the application of magic into technology became common place. Steam engines were the first things enhanced by magic with coal and oil replaced by aether and aurora. This replacement of fuel allowed for the miniaturization of the steam engine letting steam power be used in more places. Roads and bridges could be constructed with steam powered machines. New cities were able to be built faster and grander than ever seen before. While witches and wizards flew across the land surveying and discovering ruins from the uncertainty and before. This cemented magic as the foundation of travel, trade and exploration.
